Ben used to join us to play bridge at the University of Chicago in the 1950s. He was one of the best bridge players that I have encountered. I am sorry to hear that he is dead.

Ben was my bridge partner when I was a U of Chicago undergrad around 1960. We were both PhD .students of Antoni Zygmund. We connected many times at AMS meetings. He was great fun to be with. Ben was always generous with his mathematical skill and ingenuity; he helped me mathematically many times. I miss him.

I was sad to learn of Ben's passing. I offer my deepest condolences to Ben's family and friends. We were colleagues at Rutgers from my arrival in 1972 until his retirement. I often saw him jogging as I walked home from campus to Highland Park. May the Creator of the universe, who brings comfort to all, bring peace to Ben's family and allow memory of Ben persist as a blessing.

I met Ben Muckenhoupt about 20 years ago when I visited Rutgers. I later asked him to give a talk in a special session at an AMS meeting. He was incredibly kind to me, a junior mathematician from a small school. I still treasure set of handwritten notes about the two-weight problem for the Hilbert inequality that he shared with me, and which led to a series of conjectures I dubbed the Muckenhoupt-Wheeden conjectures since the essence of them was contained in the notes.
