Brian Scott Van Horn, age 61 years, of North Plainfield, NJ, died peacefully on Friday, November 11, 2022, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Somerville, NJ, surrounded by his loving family after a five-year battle against cancer.
Born on November 24, 1960, in Plainfield, NJ, son of the late Edwin Frank Van Horn and Arlene Wilson Congialose, he spent most of his life in North Plainfield and graduated from High School there.
Brian had an infectious smile and great sense of humor. He was a great sibling and good friend to many. A talented and creative carpenter, throughout most of his entire adult life he owned and operated his own business where he was loved by his customers.
An avid music fan, Brian enjoyed going to local concerts, and was even a DJ during part of his early adulthood when he lived in Minnesota for a short while. He was also a DJ in Plainfield, NJ, picking up extra money while he built his carpentry business.
His love of carpentry and music was eclipsed only by the love of riding his trophy winning classic 1975 Harley Davidson and taking it occasionally to local car shows. He also enjoyed working on his motorcycles, and spending time with his family and friends. Brian and his brother Dwayne partnered up on a mini stock car, and had fun for a few years driving and competing with the car on which they had painted on the side, “Drive it, like you stole it!”
Playing basketball, mixing it up, while growing up, in the North Plainfield playgrounds with friends, and watching the NBA as an adult were a few other pastimes Brian enjoyed, as well as playing golf whenever he was able.
He is survived by his step-mother, Barbara Van Horn; his siblings and their partners, Valerie Neu and David, Ron Van Horn and Shawn, and Dwayne Van Horn; his half-siblings and their partners, George Uzzell, Karen Loeffler and John, Donna Wellbrook, and Jennifer Dominguez and Dan; his stepbrothers and their partners, Steve Mandraccia and Tina, and Chris Mandraccia; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members; and many dear friends.
All are invited to join the family for a visitation on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
