Charles S. Zultanski, age 79 years, of Kingwood Township, NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, July 11 2021 on his farm, surrounded by his loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born in Trenton, NJ on May 19, 1942, son of the late Charles L. and Catherine Kushner Zultanski, Charles was raised in Trenton, NJ, having lived in Kingwood Township for the past forty-six years.
A United States Army veteran of the Korean War, he was honorably discharged in 1968. Upon his return, Charles joined and was a proud member of the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Allied Workers, Local 89, Trenton, NJ.
Charles’ life changed forever when he met Ms. Elsie Gural during a night of dancing at the Kingwood Inn. Soon the ‘city slicker’ fell for the ‘country girl’ in a match made for heaven. With Elsie by his side, Charles readily adapted to the country lifestyle and found great satisfaction in the honest work of managing the Gural Farm. For all his days, he was proud to be the ‘family’ of the family farm.
Known for his lush gardens brimming with wildflowers, he greatly enjoyed riding his Farmall tractors and ensuring that the farm was kept pristine. As a member of the union, he was not one to shy away from hard work. He was known to work even while injured, as that is just what one did when they were part of a team.
Family was important, and Elsie’s passing in 2004 was hard on Charles, but he never gave up even though he faced serious health concerns himself. With the help of family and friends, he continued to strive each day to keep the farm looking perfect, and was able to take his last breath looking out on the place he loved dearly.
In addition to his family and hard work, Charles was also fond of eating and never met a pierogi he did not like, nor a quart of coffee ice cream that was not worthy of being eaten! Taking care of his many birds on the farm was also a pastime, with hummingbirds being among his favorite as well as most recently, watching the Hallmark movie channel and then turning on his favorite DooWop music station.
Preceded in death by his parents and beloved Elsie, Charles was also predeceased by a brother, Raymond, and two of his favorite pups, Bimbo and Cody.
Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis F. and Linda Zultanski; his nieces and nephews, Stephen and Ida Zultanski, Susan Zultanski, Debbie and Jim Morrison, and Eugene Michael and Dawn Gural; his great niece and nephews, Christopher Morrison, Scott Morrison, Amanda Gural, and Brian Gural; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
Charles will lie in repose on Saturday, July 17, 2021 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
A life celebration service officiated by Rev. Peter Mantell will take place on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. and to which all are welcome.
Burial will follow next to his beloved life partner, Elsie Gural, at Rosemont Cemetery, Rosemont, NJ.
Upon completion at the cemetery, everyone is invited to the Kingwood Township Volunteer Fire Company, 952 County Road 519, Frenchtown, NJ 08825, for a time of luncheon and fellowship.
