Cheryl May Clark, age 56 years, of Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at home, surrounded by her loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born on September 2, 1963 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, she was the daughter of Elsa Selody Gilbert and the late Earle F. Gilbert.
A graduate of North Hunterdon Regional High School, Cheryl went on to own and operate Serenity’s Edge Spa, Flemington, NJ, for many years. She was a well regarded massage therapist who made her clients physically feel better with her tremendous skills, but also always ensured their psyche was put at ease with her warm and comforting personality.
A dedicated and loving mother, Cheryl enjoyed taking care of everyone else. As she began to care for her own mother the last several years, she truly took on the matriarchal role in her large family. She was known to tell it how it was, and her home was open to everyone. She was a wonderful cook, and almost every holiday was hosted at her home. Those events would go late into the night, with family and friends sitting around a bon-fire simply appreciating what it meant to be ‘family’ and ‘friends’.
She also had a passion for riding horses and anything equestrian. She believed that horses were truly majestic creatures and enjoyed taking long rides just appreciating life. Sharon lemon once wrote, “The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit and freedom.” Cheryl was one of those people who exhibited all those same qualities—grace, beauty, spirit, and freedom— and her energy will live on in all those whom she loved.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Gilbert, as well as by her aunt, Christine Selody.
Surviving are her son, Douglas; her mother, Elsa; her siblings, Nancy Gilbert, and Cynthia and Richard Pappson; her niece, Jessica Gilbert; her nephew and his wife, David and Nina Hudson; several great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and extended family; her cherished dog, Chewbacca; and many dear friends.
