Christopher Matthew Martowlis, age 55 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died suddenly but peacefully on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at his home.
Born on October 31, 1965 in Elizabeth, NJ, son of Stanley and Beverly Westrol Martowlis, Chris was a longtime resident of Clark, NJ until 1999 when he moved to Readington Township.
A 1983 graduate of Arthur L. Johnson High School, Clark, NJ, Chris would attend William Patterson University prior to joining the Carpenter/Millwright union, Local 715, as well as Teamsters Local 877, where he worked his entire career at Infineum and Bayway Refinery, both in Linden, NJ.
His hard work and devotion to his craft was appreciated by his superiors and coworkers, and it was with a heavy heart that Chris had to retire five years ago after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Meeting Tamora Anne Hanna when he was ten years old and she twelve, that innocent meeting in the cafeteria at Valley Road School in Clark would change both of their lives for the better. The two formed a friendship during their youth that would lead them back to each other many years later when they realized their love and appreciation for one another. Married on December 5, 2002, Tammy credits their success over the years as having a respect for one another and grounding their relationship in true friendship, a simple but practical model.
Chris was a devoted sports fanatic, diligently cheering for his cherished Minnesota Vikings, Michigan Wolverines and New York Yankees. He also greatly enjoyed freshwater fishing, hunting and relaxing in his pool. But his most cherished time was spent with his nephew and Godson, Matthew, watching him play sports and wearing his old jersey number, #33.
Chris was extremely well-read and always up for good discussion on virtually any topic. He was also a longtime member of Loyalty Lodge #33, F. & A.M., Union, NJ.
In addition to his parents Stash and Beverly Martowlis, and his wife, Tammy Hanna, Chris is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Patrick Dillon; his nephew and Godson, Matthew Dillon; his sister-in-law, Jean Hanna and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Robin and Michael Ince; his faithful pup, Hopie; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
Chris will lie in repose on Sunday, July 18, 2021 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. Please, if possible, do not wear black but something bright and light!
