Claire Naulty Geyer, 82, of Frenchtown, New Jersey, passed away Sept. 7, 2022, after a short illness. Born in Philadelphia on March 8, 1940, Claire was the daughter of Stella (née Lewis) and George Edmund Geyer.
Claire grew up in Narberth and Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, graduating from Lower Merion High School in 1959. As a teenager, the family spent two years in Tokyo, Japan while her father worked for the UN Korea Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA).
Claire graduated with a degree in design from Drexel University in 1964. She worked in fashion design and marketing in Philadelphia for nearly a decade before moving to New Hope, Pennsylvania in 1975 to open Lock House No. 11, a craft and fiber arts shop named after its original location, a former lock house on the Delaware Canal. A master weaver, she taught classes in weaving, knitting, spinning, basketry, and other handcrafts, as well as sponsoring classes and events with other local artisans. After her retirement, she devoted her time and energy to volunteering for the Red Cross, working tirelessly as an emergency dispatcher up until a week before she died.
Claire was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Richard and her sister-in-law Eileen Devine Geyer, George E. Geyer, Jr., Stephen L. Geyer, her nephew George E. Geyer, III, and nephew-in-law Christian Salcedo. She is survived by her nieces and nephew, Mary McLaughlin and her husband Brendan of Milton, MA, Anne Geyer of Chicago, IL, Ellen Salcedo and her fiancé Phil McWatters of New Castle, DE, Laura Geyer of Panama, Kathleen Renning Geyer of Media, PA, Craig Geyer and his wife Kim of Secane, PA, six great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and many good friends who will miss her.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date.
Cremation was private under the direct supervision of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
