Connor Joseph Golembiewski, age 17 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Palmerton, PA, after an accident doing what he loved to do, which was to be outdoors with family and friends.
Born October 31, 2001 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, the oldest child of Michael Joseph and Veronika Jozsa Golembiewski, he was a lifelong area resident.
Currently a junior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, Flemington, NJ, no words will do justice to a young man who truly lived his life in the image of God. Kind, compassionate and loving are the foundations on which Connor chose to live his life, and they will be the main parts of his enduring legacy.
Even-tempered, mild mannered and sociable, Connor truly excelled in all that he did. His entire family jokes that anything Connor touched turned to gold, as he could just master pretty much anything. From academics to music, from athletics to video games, he truly was, even at his young age, “a jack of all trades.” He set his bar high, and let no obstacle stand in his way.
Aspiring to be an engineer, Connor was an honors student who always pushed himself to do well academically. His grades reflected his hard work, but his attitude always remained humble. Encouraging others, he would always be the first to assist in class and help other students when needed. His dedication led him, in the summer of 2017, to register for an online advanced geometry class offered by Johns Hopkins University, so he could take AP Calculus this school year. His parents, taken back by him giving up a big part of his summer, nevertheless supported him as they did in all his endeavors.
A standout athlete, Connor enjoyed everything from hockey, mountain biking and golf, to rock climbing. His love and passion for hockey played a major role throughout his life. He played for the local clubs of the NJ Renegades, NJ Freeze, and Hunterdon Bears, as well as the Hunterdon Central Regional High School team. Connor was an excellent player, and his teammates and coaches all agree that he was the consummate teammate who made everyone around him better.
Connor also loved working with young kids to teach them how to skate and play hockey, and most importantly, to enjoy every second on the ice. His smile was always the brightest when seen through his hockey helmet.
Musically inclined, Connor wrote several piano pieces and played any musical instrument he could find. Piano, guitar, trumpet, and the baritone saxophone were among his favorites. His family enjoyed many of his concerts over the years as he played in everything from the school band to the Jazz Band.
Connor was not a child who wanted anything for free; handouts were not his thing. He wanted to work, earn and understand things and achieve success on his own, which inspired so many others. The oldest of all his cousins, they reminisced that Connor was, “the big brother” who prevented chaos among them, and the one to whom all looked to for guidance and advice. He was always including everyone, and set the example of always doing what might not have been popular, but was always right.
This lover of life was extremely faithful. Upon making his confirmation at St. Magdalen Church where he was also baptized and received his first holy communion, Connor chose the name “Patrick” in honor of St. Patrick. Not only honoring his Irish heritage, he was also proud of the faith of St. Patrick who said, “Christ beside me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ within me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me.” Connor’s life of charity, hope and love was derived from his faith in Jesus Christ and his word.
Matthew 5:3-10, is commonly referred to as the Beatitudes. The words truly articulate the life Connor lived, and the hope that is provided for us all as Connor becomes a Guardian Angel to so many: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Connor, your life of faith, hope and love can not be silenced by death. The good you have created will live on in the hearts of all who were able to experience a part of your soul and who will be touched by the kindness of others in your honor.
Connor’s family requests you continue each day to be a little kinder to one another, a little more giving to those in need, and to simply love each other without looking for anything in return. By doing this, you will honor and live his legacy.
In addition to his parents, surviving is his sister, Emily McKayla Golembiewski; his brother, Logan Patrick Golembiewski; his paternal grandparents, Walter and Mary Golembiewski; his maternal grandmother, Veronika Lawson; his aunts and uncles, Walter and Alex Golembiewski, Brian and Laura Golembiewski, Timothy and Christine Golembiewski, Justin and Molly Badau, and Zoltan and AnnMichele Badau; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
Connor will lie in repose on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 3:00-9:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ, and all are welcomed to help celebrate the mark this amazing young man made on Earth.
PARKING: There will be clear signage on Route 31 along with police officers directing people where to park. ONLY those with special needs will have parking at the funeral home main parking pavilion. The neighboring lots of the funeral home have been kind enough to offer their lots for some parking, but we need to respect the businesses during their open hours.
Due to the expected high volume of attendance, everyone is encouraged to drive especially careful in the area of Route 31/Church Street and Hunterdon Central Regional High School and to use the shuttle buses when able. Please dress warmly and bring umbrellas if necessary.
Shuttle buses will be running continuously from the Main Lot of Hunterdon Central Regional High School (just north of the funeral home about 1/2 mile) from 3:00-9:00 p.m. (pick-up/drop-off will be by the front entrance to the main school building on Route 31). Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated by the family.
A Mass of Christian Burial, concelebrated by Rev. Kenneth D. Brighenti and Rev. John Trigilio, will take place on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 beginning at 11:00 a.m. in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. Everyone is encouraged to arrive at the Church beginning at 10:15 a.m. There will be nothing public at the funeral home on Wednesday morning.
Parking will be at the church, with overflow parking at the Flemington Jewish Community Center. Please follow all signs for parking on Wednesday morning and leave adequate time for getting to Church. There will be a courtesy shuttle from the Synagogue to the Church. For those accompanying the family to the mausoleum, we will be ensuring that you are able to return to the Synagouge to retrieve your car for the short procession to St. Magdalen Cemetery. Car pooling is encouraged.
Following Mass, all are welcomed to join in a procession to St. Magdalen Mausoleum, North Main Street, Flemington, NJ, for committal prayers. Please do not go to the Mausoleum ahead of the procession as you will not be able to enter off of North Main Street.

Although I did not know Connor, my grandson Nicholas Hungerford was very friendly with him in 8th grade and is now a Junior at Central. I have been praying every day since I learned of Connor's passing. I'm sure that he is resting peacefully in the arms of our Lord and I will continue to pray for him and for you.
