David S. Jacobson, age 88 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Friday, December 31, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.
Born March 1, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Jack and Sarah Faden Jacobson, he had resided in Raritan Township since 1970, having formerly lived in Plainfield, NJ.
David received his Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He then completed the Chemical and Metallurgical Training Program at the General Electric Company, before volunteering for the U.S. Navy and serving for three years sailing the Pacific in between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was awarded the China Service Medal for his service.
For over 20 years, David worked at RCA in Somerville, NJ, as an electrical engineer. During his tenure, he was awarded three separate patents for his work in the field of semiconductors and integrated circuits, and led the team in charge of creating the microchips used in NASA’s 1977 Voyager 1 and 2 spacecrafts, which continue to transmit valuable data back to earth from interstellar space. He later worked for several years as a global operations management consultant at Thomas Group.
Above all, David loved spending time with his family. He was a devoted and beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who had a natural ability to make anyone, from those closest to him to those he’d just met, feel at ease and respected. An avid swimmer and sailor, a news and history buff, and a lover of music and comedy, David had a curious mind and an infectious smile and laugh.
For many years, he was a volunteer for the Hunterdon County Democratic Committee, and felt strongly about helping to enhance the democratic process. He was also a volunteer for Central Jersey Score, offering guidance to local small business owners, and served as president of the Flemington Jewish Community Center.
David was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Carole Jacobson. Surviving are his three children and their spouses, Robin Engelson and her husband, Larry Yogel of Minneapolis, MN and Naples, FL, Mark and Anneliese Jacobson of Raritan Township, NJ, and Brad and Chava Jacobson of Brooklyn, NY; his six grandchildren, Shoshana Engelson, Daniel Engelson, Hannah Jacobson, Kyle Jacobson, Sasha Jacobson, and Ava Jacobson; his sister, Lita Sokol; brother-in-law, Stephan Gold; and many dear friends.
