Doreen Yarussi Kraycirik, age 55 years, of East Amwell Township, NJ, died peacefully at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro on Sunday, February 2, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, November 20, 1964, daughter of the late Joseph Yarussi and Josephine Placca Yarussi, she had formerly lived in Cranford, NJ before moving to East Amwell thirty-three years ago.
Earning her Cosmetology Certificate from Poly Technical School in 1982, Doreen owned and operated the Shear Magic Hair Salon in Scotch Plains, NJ for twenty-eight years. Beloved by her clients who became her dear friends and extended family, she will be remembered by all for her natural talent and a heart that could make anyone feel comfortable and at ease, in addition to feeling good about themselves.
Fighting a fierce battle with pancreatic cancer was not something that ever slowed Doreen down nor let define her sense of being. She fought the battle with optimism and zest for life that was admired by all. As an anonymous cancer survivor once said, “Just because I can’t control what life throws at me, doesn’t mean I can’t control how I handle it.”
Loving to cook, listening to country music, enjoying her family while coaching her daughters cheerleading and watching her son race his car, Doreen will be remembered as a hostess and confidant to everyone.
Her home was open to all who entered into her life and she treated everyone with great respect. She loved shopping, being a dance mom, fun jewelry, and the beach; she truly was a “toes in the sand girl.”
A longtime communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, Doreen was the treasurer for the East Amwell Township Board of Education where she proudly served since 2014. During that time, she served on the cafeteria, budget and finance, and buildings and grounds committees, and was instrumental in getting the referendum passed for the 2018 addition to the school. Anything to help children succeed and have a good educational experience was her motto.
Surviving are her loving husband, Keith, with whom she joined hands in marriage on May 14, 1989; a daughter, Jessica Kraycirik; a son, Jason Kraycirik; a sister, Karen Yarussi; a brother, Joseph Yarussi; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Andrew and Sharon Kraycirik; her precious dog, Cody; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
