Dorothy (Dottie) Sy, age 82 years, former Flemington, NJ, resident and chef at the Hunterdon County Jail, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Novant Health, Charlotte, NC.
Born in Suriname, South America, Dottie spent the majority of her youth in China. As a young adult, she returned to Suriname prior to immigrating to the United States where she and her husband, Johannes, started their family.
After her husband’s passing, she thrived as a single parent after teaching herself English, and learning how to cook a variety of cuisines influenced by her experiences living on three continents and in three states in the United States.
Dottie was a storyteller and avid book reader with a passion for collecting and sharing her unique recipes with others. A loyal friend and dedicated parent, she is survived by her sisters, Meilin and Mildred; her daughter, Romona Sy, son-in-law Christopher Baldwin, and their son, Chris Baldwin; and her daughter, Holly Moore, son-in-law, Pernell Moore, and their twin children, Peyton and Penelope Moore. She is also blessed with nieces, nephews, Brian Riccioni and his family, and many loving friends that honor her memory.
Arrangements are private.
You are encouraged to visit Dottie’s permanent life celebration site at www.wrightfamily.com to light a candle of hope, leave messages of condolence, share words of comfort and recollection, and post photographs of her life.
