Dorothy Kurowicki, age 92 years, longtime resident of Kenilworth, NJ, died peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Independence Manor, Raritan Township, NJ, under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born on July 1, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, daughter of the late John J. and Helen Scupski Stancavage, Dorothy had resided in Kenilworth, NJ, in the home she and her late husband, Edward C. Kurowicki, built together in 1963.
Dedicated to her family and friends, Dorothy will be forever lovingly remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother whose selfless devotion to others is the hallmark of her legacy.
Married to Edward for sixty-five years, the couple had one son Edward J., who would lovingly give them a daughter when he married Donna. The true twinkle in her eyes were her three precious granddaughters, Michele, Christina, and Jennifer, who were lucky enough to have been raised alongside their grandparents and learn from their wisdom.
Working many different jobs to support her family, Dorothy and Edward often went without so their son could follow his dreams wherever they took him. His successes, both personally and professionally, were their successes, and they took immense pride in seeing the next generations following their hearts.
Following Edward’s accident more than twenty years prior to his death in 2022, Dorothy lovingly took care of him. They loved to frequent the Borgata in Atlantic City and spending time with family. Dorothy ensured that they lived each day to the fullest, no matter the obstacles thrown their way.
Her Catholic faith and Polish heritage were important drivers of her persona, and she was known to make sure there was always time for church as well as family dinners, hallmarks of when she grew up in the blue-collar, coal-mining area of Pennsylvania. In Kenilworth, she was a forty-year plus communicant of St. Teresa’s Church, where her prayers for so many were no doubt heard and answered.
St. Thérèse of Lisieux once wrote, “The loveliest masterpiece of the heart of God is the heart of a mother.” There is no doubt to anyone who knew Dorothy, that her motherly senses of love and selflessness surely will live on through the actions of all who were touched by her loving spirit. Though saddened by her passing, her family takes comfort in knowing she is with so many cherished family and friends who have gone before, and that she will surely be waiting for each of them when they are called Home.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Stancavage.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Edward J. and Donna Kurowicki; her three granddaughters, Michele, Christina, and Jennifer; her seven great-grandchildren, Rianna, Tyler, Caylee, Ryan, Caius, Bowen, and Quinn; her brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Donna Stancavage; several extended family members; and many friends made as she traveled life’s winding path.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Jason Pavich will take place on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 390 County Road 523, Whitehouse Station, NJ.
Interment with her cherished husband, Edward, will take place privately following mass at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
All arrangements are under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
