Dr. Cecilia C. Hsu

Dr. Hsu was such a staple in the Kansas City Chinese community growing up. Her involvement within the community and donating her time and talents can be felt even now. She served such an essential service, offering medical attention to the Chinese community, and providing medical advice in a language that was often not available in other pediatric offices or hospitals. She was my pediatrician. As a child,I used to be terrified of her. But what kind isn't afraid of a doctor? As I got older, our paths often crossed outside of her office and outside of her Dr role. She was funny, and would often tell embarrassing stories about you as a kid. All in good fun, of course. Even though Dr. Hsu is gone, I'm pretty sure there's an entire generation of Chinese kids that are still scared of her and can hear her telling us to eat our vegetables.
