Dwayne Robert Van Horn, age 66 years, of Plainfield, NJ, passed away on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-Somerset, after a long battle with COPD.
Born in Plainfield, NJ, Dwayne spent most of his life in North Plainfield, where he graduated from North Plainfield High School.
With an infectious smile and great sense of humor, Dwayne was a great sibling, uncle, and good friend to many.
Dwayne spent his adult life working in the ornamental iron works field where he sold jobs, measured jobs, installed them or supervised the installation of thousands of railings. Although Dwayne retired 4 years ago, he most recently was employed by Macaro Iron Works in Manville, NJ, where he occasionally did part-time work which included working this past week. He very much enjoyed working with the Macaro family, and they treated Dwayne like family.
Dwayne enjoyed many years of riding motorcycles, up until the last couple of years ago, when he down-sized to an ‘e-bike’ that his brother Ron bought for him. Dwayne and his brother Brian partnered up on a mini stock car several years back and had fun for a few years driving and competing with the car that had painted on it’s side: “Drive it, like you stole it!”
Not only a brother to Ron, but Dwayne was a valued volunteer for him and the Flemington Car Shows for several years where he enjoyed the shows and great friendships that developed from them. Over the last couple of years, Dwayne assisted with driving his brother Ron to long-distance client meetings, enabling for some more brotherly bonding, as well as having Ron’s clients getting the chance to enjoy Dwayne’s company (Dwayne was just that likeable!).
He was preceded in death by his birth parents, Frank Van Horn and Arlene Wilson as well as by a brother, Brian Van Horn.
Dwayne is survived by his stepmother, Barbara Van Horn, along with a large family of siblings that includes Valerie Neu, and Ron Van Horn, along with half brother George Uzzell, half sisters Karen Loeffler, Donna Wellbrook, and Jennifer Dominguez, and two stepbrothers, Steve and Chris Mandraccia, and his former wife, Kathy.
All are invited to join the family for a visitation on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
