Edna M. Ponichtera, age 101 years, of Manville, NJ, died on Monday, August 16, 2021 at Robert Wood Johnson Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, NJ.
Born on May 19th, 1920 in South River, NJ, Edna spent her years in Bound Brook, NJ, Pensacola, FL, and Carlsbad, FL.
Edna, however, never shook her ‘Jersey-Roots’, and spent the past fourteen years back in Manville with her granddaughter, Bonnie Wisinewski, her husband Robert, and their beloved dog, Cooper. It was here where Edna found solace in taking long walks around town, where she would always stop for a hot cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee on Main Street.
In 1936, Edna had the honor of marrying the love of her life, Thaddeus J. Ponichtera. Together, they raised two daughters, Diana Frost of Manville NJ, and Betty Gary of Carlsbad, CA. Although Thaddeus passed away in September of 1986, the unbreakable bond and unconditional love that the couple shared is everlasting and their love story has been greatly admired throughout the generations.
Edna was a woman of many talents. She was a skilled cook, and an avid bingo player who eagerly looked forward to her weekly trips to the Elks where she would try her luck at winning the next round of her favorite game. When she wasn’t playing bingo, Edna could be found listening to her collection of favorite music, particularly Don Ho and Elvis Presley, or at the Jersey Shore with the family she so deeply cherished.
Edna had the privilege of watching the four generations below her grow up and create families of their own. Besides her daughters Diana and Betty, Edna leaves to cherish her memory Betty’s husband, her son-in-law, Charles; five grandchildren; Bonnie and her husband, Robert, Pam, Sheri, Jennifer, and Scott and his wife, Becky; eleven great-grandchildren, Paul, Todd, Emily, Sara, Mario, Milla, Eddie, Heather, Shannon, Victoria and Samantha; her great-great grandson, Alex; and her favorite pooch, Cooper. Edna is also survived by her two very special friends, Queenie, of GA, and Lynette, of FL, of whom she held very close to her heart for the past thirty years.
Edna’s final request was for her loved ones to forever hold on to the loving memories that were created and shared with her throughout her life, and to keep in mind that this isn’t a goodbye, but rather a “see you later.”
Cremation took place privately at the Chapel of Ewing Crematory, Ewing Township, NJ under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
