George Karousatos, age 84 years, of Delaware Township, NJ, died peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Country Arch Care Center, Union Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Kafalonia, Greece, September 6, 1940, son of the late Spyros and Elena Bibiki Karousatos, George emigrated to the United States on October 5, 1955. He, along with his mother, three sisters, and one brother, would join his father who had come earlier to prepare for the family to make a better life.
Settling in New Brunswick, NJ, George graduated from New Brunswick High School, and went on to graduate from Parsons School of Design in New York City, NY, earning a BA in Engineering. His degree would do him well, as he became an expert fabricator of various pool supplies and ran several well-known companies making specialized products, especially pool covers.
His business acumen and passion for the outdoors led him to be very involved in the Downtown Business Association in Bordentown, NJ, where he operated his business for many years. He served on the executive board there, as well as served on the Shade Tree Commission in Bordentown. He was proud to have organized many crews each Arbor Day to plant shade trees, and he was also extremely proud to have completely designed and built the ‘Frank Carr Iris Garden’ in Hilltop Park which brings peace to many hearts to this day.
A cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many, George met his cherished wife, Patricia Anne Rudolph in 1976, and after a long courtship they would marry on October 15, 1988.
With many hobbies in his wheelhouse, George loved being outdoors and was happy whether on the beach or in the mountains. He greatly enjoyed sailing, kayaking, fishing, gardening, playing volleyball, and planting trees. Most of all though, he simply enjoyed helping everyone however he was able and spending time with his family living life to its fullest.
American Author Helen Keller wrote, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart.” Thank you, George, for making this world so beautiful and memorable. You will truly live on in the hearts and actions of all who your life has touched.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Anna and Larry, his brothers-in-law, Thomas Kouridakis and Jack Zajac, and a nephew, Jackie Zajac.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Anne Rudolph; his children, Cheryl Karousatos and her partner, Chelsea Dixon, and George and his wife, Diane Karousatos; his grandchildren, Dr. Thomas Smith and his wife, Katrina Smith, Jacquelyn Smith and her companion, Charles (KC) Minnick, Anthony Bencivengo, Nicholas Bencivengo, Dr. Christopher Karousatos, Alec Karousatos, and Rachel Karousatos; his great grandchildren, Theo and Benji Smith; his sisters, Pegi Zajac and Georgia Kouridakis; his brother and sister-in-law, Nikolas and Trudie Karousatos; many nieces, nephews, and extended family; and many dear friends.
George’s family would also like to thank the dedicated and compassionate team of Hunterdon Hospice, as well as each and every person at Country Arch Care Center who took care of George with love and respect. Each of you reading this will forever be a part of our family.
