Hannelore (“Lore”) Anna Eilmes (née Brych) of Lambertville, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 7, 2024, at the age of 92. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Heinz Ulrich Eilmes, in 2019.
Hannelore was the loving mother of Karin Parker and her partner, Salvatore, of Lambertville, NJ, and Rita Praino and her husband, Paul, of Winter Haven, FL. She was a devoted grandmother to Tierney (Billy), Tyler, and Tabitha (Paul).
Born in Bremerhaven (formerly Wesermünde), Germany, on March 12, 1932, Hannelore was the only child of Willy and Anna (née Senfleben) Brych. Her lifelong love for animals began during her childhood in Germany, where pets—including some adventurous farm animals—often found their way into the house.
Hannelore met Heinz after both had separately immigrated to the United States from Germany following World War II. A chance encounter at a German club, Sänger Hall, led to a loving partnership that spanned more than six decades. Together, they built a life filled with warmth and adventure, first in Bridgewater, NJ, where they raised their two daughters and made lifelong friends on Chambers Court. Hannelore and Heinz kept in close touch with family and friends in Germany, traveling back frequently to maintain those cherished connections.
Their home was filled with love, pets, and delicious aromas from Hannelore’s kitchen. Alongside two growing daughters, the household welcomed cats, dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs, and even an unexpected litter of pet mice. Hannelore was a prolific cook and baker, delighting her family with favorite dishes like goulash, Erdbeertorte, Birnenteig, and Sauerbraten. Frankfurter Kranz, a family treasure, was always a collaborative effort between Hannelore and Heinz.
After retiring to Hutchinson Island, FL, in the 1990s, Hannelore and Heinz enjoyed many joyful years together, frequently cruising to the Caribbean. Later, they moved to Summerville, SC, before Hannelore spent her final years living with her daughter, Karin, and Sal in Lambertville, NJ with her beloved cat, Heidi. She was also grateful to have extra time with her two great-grandchildren, a bulldog Henry (“little boy”) and a goldendoodle Duncan (“big boy”) during visits.
In Lambertville, Hannelore embraced her community and made new friends everywhere she went. Her warmth and kindness made it nearly impossible to leave her presence without a hug. Her love extended equally to animals, who were treated as family, with no seat or treat off-limits.
Hannelore was deeply loved, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Hannelore’s memory can be made to Tabby’s Place in Ringoes, NJ, to honor her lifelong love for animals.
Life celebration services and interment were private under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
