Jim Suskiewicz, age 76, passed away peacefully at the Hunterdon Medical with his greatest love in life, Mary Melfi, there at his side.
The Suskiewicz family emigrated from Poland in 1951 to live in the U.S. when Jim was just two years old. Together, they settled and built a wonderful life in Flemington, NJ, where Jim continued to reside from that time on.
Jim was a graduate of Hunterdon Central High School’s esteemed Class of 1966. From there he immediately began working for Union Carbide in Piscataway, NJ, until he was drafted to serve his country during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Jim returned to work at Union Carbide, where he was employed for over 35 years until his retirement in 2002.
For a time, an unforgettable time, Jim served as the popular Commander at the Flemington American Legion, Post 159. The events and the fun that took place during that period were much appreciated by all who shared in the experience. He was also a long-time member of the Sunday Morning Golf Club where he shared many good times with friends at golf courses around the state.
Throughout his life, Jim made friends every place he ever went – friends he kept forever and ever. He loved a good time, loved to laugh, and loved to laugh at himself, which is what made him so special to those who knew him.
He had a passion for ice cream-rarely did a day pass without ice cream. He would definitely want you to celebrate his life by having an ice cream sundae.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Boleslaw (Bill) and Stanislawa (Stella) Suskiewicz, whom he adored. He is survived by his true love of more than 47 years, Mary Melfi; his brother, Dr. Lewis Suskiewicz (wife Christine), of whom he was so proud; his niece, Dr. Karen Suskiewicz (husband Greg Monteforte), and nephews, Brian and Thew Suskiewicz (wife Danielle) and his grandnieces, Emily and Gayle, and his sister-in-love, Martha Music.
