Jeffrey “Jeff” Bertrand, age 63 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died peacefully on Friday, January 29, 2021 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Summit, NJ, July 7, 1957, he was the son of the late Harold and Josephine Crawford Bertrand. Raised in Gillette, NJ Jeff moved to Readington Township in 2000.
A truck driver for many years working still for the Wurth Baer Supply Company, Edison, NJ, Jeff loved the open road and was a diligent and conscientious worker. With the many miles he traveled, Jeff was a literal road map of New Jersey, and could get anyone to a location from anywhere in the state. He was better than an Atlas and people were always amazed at his recall ability.
Persistent, compassionate, helpful, strong-willed, and positive are just a few of the descriptors of this loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. The life of any social gathering or party, Jeff simply enjoyed being around others.
A guitar player, making music was an essential part of Jeff’s world. He knew there was a note and cord, as well as a lyric, for all of the facets one experiences during life and he enjoyed helping others find contentment through music.
In addition to music, anything with wheels and a motor would get Jeff’s attention. He loved classic cars and Nascar, with him being Dale Earnhardt, Sr.’s biggest fan, as well as loving to watch Sunday races at home. Dirt bikes and Motor Cross were also a favorite pastime. The need for speed was not just confined to the track, as Jeff also loved to water ski, on one ski, not two.
He was known among family and friends as, “Mr. Fix It” due to the fact that he loved working with his hands and always had a project to keep him busy.
An anonymous author once wrote, “It is not a race, it’s a journey. Enjoy the moment.” Jeff cherished every moment with family, friends, and strangers alike, and though his life was ended too soon by societal standards, he enjoyed each moment to the fullest and we should all aspire to do the same.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, David and Ed Bertrand.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Robyn Hill Bertrand; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kyle Bertrand, Gavin and Tabitha Bertrand; two brothers, Harold and Ken Bertrand; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jan and Peter Pletcher and Marilyn and Jay Madsen; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
