Jeffrey Lynn Calhoun, age 75 years, of Three Bridges, NJ, died on Monday, November 29, 2021 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Jeff was born in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania to Mary (Farwell) Calhoun and Clare Calhoun. He lived with his grandparents, Robert and Rhea (Kahl) Farwell during childhood and graduated from Lockhaven High School. Upon graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corps as he wanted to serve his country in the way many generations had done before him.
During his time in the service, Jeff was stationed in Parris Island, Camp Lejuene, Camp Pendleton, and Cuba. Eventually, he was called to Vietnam where he saw much action and among other service medals, he was awarded the Purple Heart three times. Jeff always appreciated the fact that he was one of the lucky ones to make it home, and thought often of his fellow service members who he knew he would see once again.
After being honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1968, Jeff came to New Jersey with a friend from the Marine Corps and eventually settled in the Garden State since there were few job opportunities in his hometown. He first found work as a contractor, then switched employment roles to the insurance industry working first for Sunlife of Canada and Two Guys from Harrison. During his time with these companies, he also chose to continue his education, earning his BA from Kean College, Union NJ.
His insurance career eventually led him to find employment with Mutual of Omaha where he worked for over 25 years. During his tenure, Jeff earned several awards and continued his education with The American College, earning five insurance designations. He also was a proud member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA). Friends and business associates remember him as always willing to help others, his smile and of course his sense of humor had a way of always lifting someone’s spirits.
He and his wife, Nancy Pender, were married in 1993 in Cape May, NJ, which was their favorite beach location. Together, they had two sons, Shane Thomas and Matthew Joseph, who joined Jeff’s oldest son, Brian. Jeff enjoyed being part of the boys’ growing up years, participating in Boy Scouts where among other activities, he was involved in many camping trips.
In addition to family life, Jeff was a member of The Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 700, and the Marine Corps League Detachment, 927 Hunterdon County Bulldogs, where he had many great friendships while volunteering his time and efforts.
This loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and patriot will be forever remembered by all who knew him as a man of duty, honor and valor in all that he did. Semper Fidelis, Until Valhalla our dear friend.
In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his brother, Vaughn Calhoun.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Calhoun; his sons, Brian, Shane and Matthew Calhoun; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
