Dedicated community servant, avid antique collector, and longtime Flemington resident, Joanne K. Maimone, age 88, of Flemington, NJ, passed away on Saturday, September 25th at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ.
She was born on April 2, 1933 in Newport News, VA and was the daughter of late George H. Kelly and Pauline S. Kelly. She raised her five children, Kenneth R. Maimone, Lisa M. Walker, Laura M. Sharlin, Gary M. Maimone, and Doug J. Maimone in Bound Brook, NJ until 1969, when she moved her family to her current residence at Lazy Brook Farm in Flemington, NJ with her late husband Hugo S. Maimone, who passed away in January 2000.
Her obsession with antiques (old children’s shoes in particular) drew her to local estate and garage sales nearly every Saturday and Sunday where many of her longtime friends and acquaintances met her and knew her best. She contributed significantly to her community, knitting baby blankets and hats for sick children at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, collecting backpacks, books, and school supplies annually for local underserved children, donating regularly to local veteran’s funds, among many other varied contributions.
She is survived by one sister, all five named children, seven grandchildren, and one great grandson.
Memberships include Three Bridges Reformed Church, Hunterdon County Library Knitting Group, Hunterdon County Historical Society, Flemington Woman’s Club, and the Woman’s Literary Club of Bound Brook.
