John Wesley Bunker, age 79, passed away on October 23, 2024, at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
John was born on June 8, 1945, in Sidney, Ohio. He was the eldest child of Russell and Leona Bunker. He was very active in sports and music during high school. He was also involved in ROTC. After graduation, John attended Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts where he graduated with a degree in economics in 1968. John was stationed in Texas for four years as an officer in the United States Air Force where he achieved the rank of Captain.
Following his time in the Air Force, John returned to Ohio where he was employed by Folger Coffee Company. He then moved to New Jersey where he continued his career in the coffee sector working for various companies until he retired from corporate. As coffee ran through his veins, he established his own business, All World Coffee, in 2000.
John traveled extensively throughout the coffee-producing countries. He served as Chairman of the National Coffee Association and held various positions on the Coffee, Sugar and Cocoa Exchange.
John was very generous in sharing his knowledge of coffee with others. He took the time to educate colleagues with his vast knowledge of coffee.
One of his passions was skiing, creating cherished memories with family and friends. His expertise in the sport led him to become a certified ski instructor. John had a very active lifestyle and enjoyed playing tennis, hiking, and spending time in the great outdoors.
John was known to many for his kindness, intelligence and compassion, always having the time to give council when needed. His love for his children and grandchildren was infinite. Even when separated by distance, he always looked forward to his weekly phone calls with family members. Keeping close relationships with his family was one of the most important things to him.
John is survived by his wife, Mary of Holland Township, NJ; brother Michael (Ellen) of Sidney, Ohio; sister Patricia of Fort Worth, TX ; Former Spouse and mother of his four children Terri; Son Brett (Katherine) of Fort Collins, Colorado; Daughter Kim (Jason) of Denver, CO; Daughter Amy (James) of Parker, CO; son Mark (Jaime) of Orlando, FL; stepdaughter Michaela (Greg) of Milford, NJ; stepson James (Jen) of Hampton, NJ; grandchildren Alexander (fiancé Katie), Kerrigan, Charlotte, Fletcher, Zoey, Millie, Ethan, Meredith, Nicholas, and William.
John was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law James.
John is loved and respected by all and will be missed by many. We have lost one of the good ones. Rest In Peace, John. We love you.
Family and friends will gather on Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
A Life Celebration Service, along with reflections from family and friends, will follow the gathering beginning at 2:00 p.m., and to which all are welcome.
