Judith “Judy” Gordley, 60, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2022. She was surrounded by her family.
Judy was born on July 2, 1961, in Raleigh, NC. She was raised in Raleigh, NC, and attended East Carolina University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Commercial Arts. Judy moved to NJ in 1990 and has been a resident of Flemington for 30 years.
She worked at QLM Associates before raising a family. She later became a valued staff member at the Flemington-Raritan School District for over 10 years before retiring in 2020.
Judy is survived by her husband of thirty-five years, Scott; her three daughters, Geena and son-in-law Preston Keyes of Sanford, NC, and Jill and Justine Gordley of Flemington, NJ. She also leaves behind her parents, Henry and Ella Mae Wentz of Raleigh, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Hank and Debbie Wentz of Raleigh, NC, and brother David Wentz of Raleigh, NC. Judy also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Lillan Gordley of Perkasie, PA. Also survived by many dear friends.
Judy was a pillar in the Flemington United Methodist Church (FUMC) community. She was a selfless and dedicated volunteer, giving fifteen plus years as the Sunday School Superintendent, as well as a member of the Leadership Council, Staff Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and the Children’s Ministry Team. Often going above and beyond expectations, she was always willing to help someone in need. Over the thirty years of involvement at the church, she made a positive impact on many of the children and young adults.
Judy was the embodiment of love and joy. The kindness she showed others was unmatched and made others pale in comparison. She loved spending time with her friends and family and was always up for an adventure. She never shied away from going to concerts and was an avid Billy Joel fan, with stories of meeting him around Raleigh as a teenager. This did not change as she got older. Judy was always looking to see Billy or his original band, The Lords of 52nd Street, any chance she had. Judy also loved attending Broadway shows in NYC for a night out, Jersey Boys, A Bronx Tale, and Hairspray were some of her favorites. She enjoyed hiking and kayaking with her husband but was less thrilled when he tried to go off-roading.
Judy’s creative side was always an important part of her, which she passed on to her daughters in unique ways. She loved creating, designing, and decorating anything from floral arrangements to table centerpieces. She was an art teacher for the Hunterdon Christian Academy based out of FUMC for a period of time which she immensely enjoyed.
A service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 22nd at the Flemington United Methodist Church, followed by a “Celebration of Life” gathering in the Fellowship Hall. The service will also be live-streamed via the Flemington United Methodist Church Facebook page. Masks will be required as per Covid protocol at this time.
