Julia Calimano-Roberts, age 79 years, of Union, NJ, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Cornell Hall, Union, NJ.

Born in Elizabeth, NJ, daughter of the late August and Elizabeth Deflice Calimano,

Julia was an educator as well as worked at the Chestnut Tavern in Union for over 20 years, not remembering your name, but always what you ordered! Known for her wild and unabashed sense of humor, please smile when you remember her and her full “32 tooth smile”.

Surviving are her daughters, Cheryl and her husband, Hugo Hernandez and barbara Benati; a brother, A.J. Kalimanos; several grandchildren; many extended family; and many friends made as she walked life’s path.

A public life celebration service is being planned at a later date under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Flemington, NJ. Please check back on this page for updated service information; again, the information will not be available until the restrictions are lifted.

Private family visitation and committal prayers, followed by cremation at Ewing Crematory, Ewing Township, NJ, took place under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.

I was so saddened to hear of Julia's passing. We had not been in touch for many many years , but I will always remember her warm friendly smile. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time. Linda Barnes Montgomery CHS '57

Julia was a good friend from junior high through high school. Most people knew and respected her as a leader. But to us she was a source of warmth, laughter and friendship and her home a center of activity. I also have a silver heart a sign that our friendship was so important all those years and still is. Julia, as the Irish say: ( though you were not Irish) “May God hold you in the small of His hand” . You deserve nothing less.

Julia was a forever friend! From grade school through junior high and high school she and our “silver heart” girlfriends meant the world to me. Funny, witty, smart and kind...she will live on in my heart.
