Keith Peter Schemick, age 65 years, of Kingwood Township, NJ, died on Friday, July 2, 2021 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in New York City, NY on December 15, 1995, son of the late Michael and Helen Dzinski Schemick, Keith was raised in Ringoes, NJ and was a lifelong area resident.
Joining the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Department in October of 1990, Keith rose in ranks to become Chief in charge of the Operations Section. Over the years he was involved in many projects to help the community. From Project Lifesaver to the Sherrif’s Canine Division, Keith was always willing to do whatever was needed to help the community. He also was devoted to continued law enforcement education and was constantly taking Homeland Security course, domestic violence courses, human relations courses, and anything that would help him be a better officer.
Graduating fro LaSalle Academy in 1974, he would go on to earn his degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement from several places, including the Community College of the Air Force and Daytona Beach Community College. Keith served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1982-1988 where he served as a military police officer and spent time both in the United States and well as in Italy. He was honorably discharged in 1986 at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Having many hobbies, Keith was a tremendous New York Giants and New York Rangers fan, having placed hockey during his younger years. He also enjoyed target shooting, bowling, reading, and photography.
Though saddened by his sudden illness and passing, his family takes heart knowing that Keith’s legacy of always being there to help others, will love on for eternity through his many good deeds.
Surviving are his daughter and her fiancé, Mellissa and Eric Hansen; his sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Schemick and David and Erin Schemick; his grandchildren, Samantha and Nicolle Hansen; the mother of his children, Sally Webb; and many friends and colleagues.
Keith will lie in repose with a Hunterdon County Sheriff Honor Guard on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
Burial with military honors will follow the gathering at 2:00 p.m. at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA.
