Patti Garvey Bunyon left a message on May 1, 2020:
We will miss Ken so much. He had always been there for his Garvey cousins during all the good and hard times we have had, Ken always came. And in more recent years, he would call up and say Pat, I'm in Garden City (usually for a former friends wake or some event), I'm stopping by. And he would stay and visit, we are going to miss those visits!. He always had a story, made us laugh and proud that he was my cousin! Now he is with his "brother" cousins having what I hope is a grand old time. Our thoughts are with you Laurel, Justin and Lexi and his grandsons. He always spoke with such love of you all, he was so proud of who you were! God Bless you all and your Mom. The (Garvey) Bunyon family

I can think of no other place to start than at the beginning. I met Ken at the Wonderbar in the mid 1980’s. After a few weekends of food, drink and great conversation, I realized ‘here’s an investment banker/stock trader who rides a Harley and lives to do carpentry and metal work” – I want to hang out with this guy! Not long after, he asked if I could help with some excavation and trucking projects at the Readington/Lebanon Sewage Authority. There I met Rick and Bobby, two great friends, all of them made me feel needed and welcome. Being invited to the house at Pleasant Run Road was always a cherished experience. The sense of family and belonging was always present. Eager to learn more about the world of finance, Ken would gladly let me tag along on a rainy day when my regular work was slow. I was proud to be at his side for the car ride to Jersey City, the PATH train and then the subway to the office. He taught me a lot about investing and I did my best to put his guidance to good use. The first trip to Wall Street will forever be the most memorable. After a regular office morning, we went to Harry’s at Hanover Square for lunch. There we met Jack Power, one of Ken’s good friends, who also remembered me on later trips in. After lunch, he took me on the floor of the NYSE. This exciting afternoon stays close to my heart to this day, and I got to share it with him. When my father left, Ken was there to help me with my trucks, equipment and even a weekend car restoration project that unfortunately got away from me. I felt comfortable at the house, as there was always a project to help with or distracting conversation. The ring Ken typically wore on the pinky of his right hand provides yet another strong memory for me. He used to let me try it on at the Wonderbar every now and then. He told me that it was a “sealing” ring, and on it was the Garvey family crest/coat of arms. All engraving was done in reverse so when dipped in hot wax and something sealed, the result would be oriented correctly. When I was ready to get my own ring, he took me to DeNatale Jewelers in NYC, the same place his was made. Feeling closer to Ken than my now-departed father, I asked DeNatale to do something special to my ring. Very few people know that I had them engrave the Garvey family crest on my ring as well. I did change the Latin below it to something meaningful to me, but for the last 28 years, every time I glance at it, it reminds me of “Ken”. My enjoyment of motorcycles began with Ken. The first Harley I ever rode was his sportster. Just before I took delivery of my first HD, he picked me up and took me to practice in various developments, on certain roads and parking lots. He was ever the patient teacher who had taken my training wheels off. Eventually we would, all of us, ride on a Sunday for a while, then maybe stop at the T.I. for a big plate of French fries! Helping me put the engines back in my boat, welding repairs on his mower deck, working with me in the woodshop, delivering cabinets, installing them, or just sitting down to talk – every moment together was treasured. My deepest sympathies to family and friends. If any of you need me, I’m here. I will miss my teacher, my mentor…but mostly my friend. Jeff Baumann
