Louise Margaret Maddalena (Taylor), age 95 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Friday, November 18 2022, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Mission, TX, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Peter Maddalena, of 38 years; parents Eugene John Taylor and Marie Margaret (Bennett) Taylor; brothers Eugene Taylor, Donald Taylor, sister Marie (Taylor) Worman and a son, Eugene John Maddalena.
Louise is lovingly remembered by her son Louis Peter Maddalena Jr. (Lynne) from Baptisttown, NJ and daughter Anna Marie (Maddalena) Gonzalez (Eduardo) from Mission, TX.; her daughter-in-law, Janet Maddalena; 13 grandchildren: Eugene John Maddalena III, Louis Peter III (Amanda), Jeffery Mario Maddalena, Jessica Lynne Corrigan (Jon), Abigail Marie Miller (Gerald), Anna Louise Maddalena, Nicholas Anthony Maddalena, Christian Taylor Maddalena, Matthew Rocco Maddalena (Alexandria), Katie Lynne Maddalena, Anthony Barnabas Maddalena, all living in Hunterdon County; 6 great-grandchildren: Jacob Maddalena; Adam, Erin and Jack Corrigan; Dominic and Damon Miller. Louise also has a brother, Robert Taylor of Flemington and many nieces and nephews.
Louise was born in Easton, PA on May 15, 1927. Her family moved from Easton to Forks Township, PA and settled in Flemington, NJ in 1945 where the Taylor’s raised their five children. Louise attended Flemington High School where she met her soul mate, Louis Peter Maddalena. After graduating high school, in 1945, she went on to attend Rider College where she earned her diploma in Business and Banking. Louis and Louise married on April 16, 1950, after they completed building their first, of four homes in Croton, NJ.
Before having children, Louise worked at different locations keeping their books, Ringoes Drive-In and Tarantola’s Trucking Company, and Flemington Lumber, to name a few. However, once she became a mother in 1954, she dedicated herself to being a fulltime, stay-at-home mom. After Anna Marie entered first grade, she began taking on work at different locations as secretary and bookkeeper. Her devotion to her children continued as she also made sure we attended church at St. Magdalen’s in Flemington, as well as taking us to many activities including piano and guitar lessons, boy and girl scout meetings, etc. Louise also taught her children to love to travel, how to read paper road maps, to appreciate hard work, and love and respect family.
Louise had many hobbies as well. She NEVER went anywhere without a camera in her hands. Coupling that with her love to travel, meant that she captured our memories on film everywhere we went. Louise visited 49 of the 50 states, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Japan, Egypt, and most of Eastern Europe. She taught her children to bake cakes and cookies, which became a passion for her son, Gene, who later, along with his wife Janet, founded Maddalena’s Cheesecakes. Louise also had a knack for sewing which meant that, for many years, she and Anna Marie never went to a family function without being dressed the same!
Life will not be the same without our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend of many. But, because of her and her teachings, we are better people for having had her life be a part of ours.
