Madeline Vettori, age 81 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Hunterdon Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with Lymphoma.
Born to Angelina and Antonio Nappi on August 25, 1942, in Brooklyn, NY, Madeline will be remembered for her genuine kindness and calming presence.
Madeline’s journey began in Brooklyn, NY, where she grew up with her brother, Aniello, and her cousins, Maddalena and Sonny Nappi. Her childhood was spent sitting on the steps of her family’s townhouse, jumping rope, roller skating, and playing hopscotch with family and friends in the neighborhood. She fondly remembered Sunday dinners with family and the simplicity of life when she was a child. Madeline graduated from St. Brendan’s Diocesan High School in Brooklyn, NY, and earned a degree in Chemistry from St. Joseph’s College in Brooklyn, NY.
She met her husband, Vittorio Vettori, while searching for a way to take Italian lessons. Vittorio agreed to teach her, and the rest is history. Vittorio was attracted to Madeline’s humility, modesty, and gentle spirit. They married on April 3, 1977, in Brooklyn, NY, and had three children, David, Marco, and Stephen.
Those who have met Madeline will remember her kind presence and soft-spoken nature. Madeline’s strong Catholic faith guided every aspect of her life, and she dedicated her life to the service of others. Before having children, Madeline worked as a social worker for the City of New York. After raising her three sons, Madeline volunteered for the Hunterdon Helpline for several years before returning to her career as a social worker in Hunterdon County, NJ. In her later years, she served her parish, St. Magdalen’s, as a Eucharistic Minister and continued her volunteer work for numerous groups and agencies in Flemington, NJ.
Predeceased by her parents and her brother, Madeline’s memory is honored by her devoted husband Vittorio, her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Amanda, Marco and Amy, and Steve and Nicole, and her six grandchildren, Vanessa, Veronica, Valerie, Sam, Jack, and Amelia, who will always remember her as “Nonna.” She will also be missed by her two sisters-in-law, Gabriella and Marisa, as well as several extended family members, and many dear friends. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her and loved her.
