Marie Ruth Denbigh, age 89 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2022 at home, with her cherished husband of sixty-six years, Jack, by her side, and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born in Newark, NJ, September 25, 1932, daughter of the late John E. and Mary F. Scheier Rolland, she was raised in Newark, NJ, and had lived for many years in North Branch, NJ, before moving to Raritan Township in 1986.
A 1950 graduate of St. James High School, Newark, NJ, Marie went on to work for Sears in Somerville, NJ, and later was one of the friendly faces at the Flemington Department Store where she worked for many years until retiring.
A devout catholic and longtime communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Marie allowed her faith to form her foundation and provide her with an inner strength that guided her in all her actions and through the many health issues she faced.
To honor Marie is to follow your heart, keep strong in your faith, put your inner compassion into outward action, and always, always, have dessert!
In 2 Timothy 4: 7-8 it is written: I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. Marie, you have fought the good fight and you have finished the race the same way you ran it in life: with dignity. Rest easy now until the time all are reunited with you in that place promised in John 14. Until then, let your light continue to shine on all who will always love you dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Rolland.
Marie would be the first to say her legacy is her family and friends who survive her including her husband, John L. “Jack” Denbigh; her children and their spouses, Susan and Scott Petty, Sherry and Jack Rice, Jamie and Joe Wessels, John Jr. and Beverly Denbigh, and Rick and Heidi Denbigh along with 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Marie will lie in repose on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Kenneth Brighenti will take place on Thursday, March 31, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Everyone is kindly asked to meet directly at the church on Thursday morning beginning at 9:45 a.m. Wright & Ford Life Celebration Care Team Family Ambassadors will direct you upon arrival.
