Marjorie Mae Billera, age 88 years, of East Amwell Township, NJ, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
Born in Raritan Township, NJ, April 5, 1931, daughter of the late Daniel and Mildred Nadeau Saunders, she was a lifelong area resident.
A 1949 graduate of Flemington High School, she had formerly worked for many years at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, as the Accounts Payable Supervisor.
Living life on her own terms, Marge was strong willed and a good listener. She was very supportive, especially to her grandchildren, who through her eyes, could do no wrong.
Her grandchildren came into her life because many years ago a young man named Louis Billera saw Marge at the local A & P food store where she and her family worked. Two years her junior, they had their first date at a Flemington vs. Clinton High School basketball game and the rest as they say, is history. Married for sixty-nine years this past September 9th, Louis credits his own longevity to having spent his life with the most “amazing” and “remarkable” woman who ever lived.
Marge and Louis’s love yielded four children, Leslie, Louis, William, and Amy. Sadly, William died in 2004. Leslie, Louis, and Amy said they knew how proud Mom was of them and how appreciative they were that she always made sure each of them knew that they could speak their mind about anything. It helped them all grow and develop to be their own individual selves, and to also go one to become good parents as well.
The holidays, especially Christmas, were important to Marge as she always enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren and looked forward to the entire family being together. Two years ago, she suffered a stroke, but the sense of family she had instilled in her child and grandchildren saw them rally around her and support her in all her endeavors as she navigated a new type of living.
As Marge died nearing her favorite holiday, to honor her best would be for all reading this to live every day as if it were Christmas—call your family, spend time with those you love, and do things for others. This will surely keep her legacy alive.
In addition to her parents and son, she was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Zeliff.
Surviving are her husband, Louis Billera; her children, Leslie and Jim Royer, Louis and Marian Billera, and Amy and Terry Welsh; a sister and brother-in-law, Bette and Tom Kenny; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jospeh and Joan Billera; a sister-in-law, Maryann Billera; her grandchildren, Leigh and Michael Catalano, Daniel and Amy Wilson, Bryan Welsh and his fiancé, Rebecca, Dr. Louis M. Billera, and Nikki and Karl Steiner; four great grandchildren; her beloved dog, Zoe; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
