Dear Mary Jo and family, I am so sorry to hear of Mark's passing. He was a wonderful man, husband and friend. He always treated me as a family member and I could talk to him for hours. He was so smart! He shared his love of inventing, cars and life. Even though our lives separated us by distance, we were still close through texts and phone calls. This is a devastating loss, however I believe he is in the loving arms of our heavenly Father. I love you Mark and Mary Jo!

Beatrice Gooding left a message on July 10, 2020:
Mark was an innovative mind, and I had the privilege to work with him in support of his ideas. They were anchored in science and technology, grounded in his knowledge and experience of applications, from manufacturing to race cars, and fueled by his passion to carry the flag for technology, and generate value while serving customers. His resilience and persistence are notorious, yet combined with an open mind and a consistent mentoring approach, engaging colleagues to learn and love greases, and learning from them, by connecting with them in a wholistic manner, including personal and professional interests. He was always appreciative, yet I often felt I could not do enough in support of his "out of the box" efforts. He was dedicated and valiant till the end. Mark, I will miss you. My sincere condolences to the family and close relatives, who lost a remarkable being.

Mark's personality was special he was always humorous and kind to others. He would interact with people that he just met and would make them feel comfortable and welcome. He was always willing to assist them even if he barely knew them. This is the kind of person he was, he had a huge heart. Mark was straight forward and honest, you would always get his honest opinion and he didn't hold anything back, that's a fine quality that he mastered. Mark was always willing to assist others if he said he would help you he would be there, you could definitely count on him. He was a true friend and great person he will be deeply missed by many. Here are a few sayings that Mark would deliver with a smile and make us laugh - Yeah Baby - Is That Right? - You can count on it Bauminator we will miss you Buddy

I'm thankful to have shared so many memories with Mark, he was a kind, funny, and extremely caring man. Mark and I spent hours in the lab where he loved teaching me how to make grease. The endless hours we spent in the lab together went beyond science, he talked about his cars, motorcycles, traveling, and life. During my time as a "greaser" I will talk to Mark everyday (his office was almost next to mine) and I will never forget the one time he told me: "Faidy if you want to enjoy what you do at work, always dedicate it to someone; I do it all the time I start a new project" WISE words my dear Mark. We will remember you and dedicate our work to you because we know how much you loved science. You will be missed, Rest in peace my dear friend!

I am so incredibly shocked and saddened by the news of Mark's passing. Mark was such an incredible soul. Smart, outgoing, funny and kind. Always willing to lend a helping hand, engage in conversations that spanned the gamut (especially about working on old cars!), and just someone who could lift your spirits up, no matter what. I have fond memories of working with Mark to figure out how we could implement a new experimental grease in Formula 1 CV Joint applications. His creativity, passion, and perseverance was a sight to behold. You'll be missed, Mark. Sending my condolences to Mark's wife and family.

Mark, or like I liked to call him based on the mood of the day Marco Paulo or Bauminator, was a brilliant soul. Mark was always kind with a beautiful smile. He loved to teach, he loved working in the laboratory and thinking about new molecules. Mark was a passionate scientist, we spent a lot of time together thinking about different structure forming mechanisms although he was happiest when he spoke about his wife Mary Joe. I will forever cherish all the times I spent with Mark, the ones where we used to argue about using midas, the ones where he would cheer me up, the ones where we could call each other to talk about greases or creams. Mark and I had many passions and hobbies in common, he was a mentor and an amazing friend. I will miss him dearly. Mary Joe, all my condolences to you and your family.

Mark was s good friend and fellow greaser. We spent many days at the Olathe grease plant staring into a smokey grease kettle waiting for stuff to happen. The stuff usually didn’t happen, but Marks story’s and wit would help pass the time. Eventually Mark would figure out how to make it happen. The fun continued at the Paulsboro Lab as we shared a “greaser” hallway and would banter back and forth across the hall. A lot of good stuff was done in that hallway. Mark loved grease, and life, and was always willing to share his grease expertise (and life lessons) with the newbies and co-ops. Marks wit and wisdom will be missed by all. My condolences to Mary Jo.

Mark was a great friend and co-worker. Since we both arrived early in Paulsboro for work, we would frequently catch up in the mornings on family, testing, travel, and the latest races my son and I would be attending. After I moved to another assignment and state, we kept in contact over IMs, text messages, along with the occasional phone call. He will be greatly missed and my deepest sympathies go out to Mary Jo.

Our hearts are breaking at the loss of this extraordinary man, Mark Baum. His smile, wit, sense of humor and kind, caring spirit were among the many things we loved and admired about Mark. When he gave you a hug, it was with all his might -- and he was a strong man! I can hear him calling my nickname, Lulu, with that special voice he contrived just for that. I remember the rides in the antique Model A Ford and the stories he would tell of his work, inventions, patents, discoveries and "tinkering" and how he raved about my father's wine. He never stopped wanting to learn. He will be sorely missed by us and everyone who knew him. We send our love and prayers that he is now resting peacefully and pain free. With sincerest condolences, Mary Lou and John
