Mary A. “Marie” Kleiner, age 95 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Monday, December 6, 2021 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital-Somerset, Somerville, NJ.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ on October 29, 1926, she was a longtime area resident.
The youngest of four children born to Lithuanian immigrants, Zigmund and Agatha Kaseta, Mary grew up with older brother Tom and sisters Mildred and Anna.
Mary was a proud first generation American. After high school, she attended Seton Hall University and earned a nursing degree. She began her nursing career in the home health field, then later joined the New Jersey public school system were she worked as a school nurse, mostly at the Woodfern School in Hillsborough, NJ, for more than two decades. Mary had a love for children and her position as a school nurse reflected that love.
It was at Seton Hall where Mary met Robert Kleiner. The two would begin a courtship and later marry. They enjoyed weekend trips to Atlantic City and took vacations to North Carolina often to visit her sister Ann and her husband, Captain Harold Edrington (USN retired). They greatly enjoyed their home in Raritan Township with all the nature that came along with it; from the deer to birds, animals were always around. Robert passed away in 2003.
Among her survivors are her niece, Janet Creese, a nephew, Thomas Edrington, and her many friends made during her time in the school system.
