Maryanne G. Hyatt, age 83 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died suddenly on Saturday, February 15, 2020, at Buttonwood Care Center, Pemberton, NJ.  Born August 9, 1936 in Collingswood, NJ, daughter of the late Lt Col. Richard Gray, Sr. (US Army) and Mary Regnery Gray, she had lived in the Flemington, NJ area for the past four years. She had formerly lived for many years in Stratford, CT, as well as many places around the world.

A proud “Army Brat”, Maryanne’s travels began with her parents, where she completed high school in Tokyo, Japan. It was on base where she would meet a young United States Army 1^st Lt., Frederic David Hyatt. The two would be smitten instantaneously, and Maryanne realized that her life of adventure had really just begun! The couple would wed on January 24, 1959 in Chambersburg, PA.

Frederic soon would move up the ranks in the Army, traveling around the world as he did, with Maryanne by his side every step of the way. She was a constant source of encouragement and was his “Commander-in-Chief”.

The union of their two loving and caring souls would soon see the growth of a family: first with two daughters, Cheryl and Kathy, and they would soon be followed by a son, Fred. Maryanne was a constant source of strength and energy for her family and always instilled in her children a level of drive to always do their best.

Her happiest role in life though, would be when she earned the title of grandmother, or in her case, “Grammer.” She would do anything for her grandchildren, from dropping everything to babysit or to organizing a yearly trip to Woodloch Pines, where all the family could be together and celebrate just being a family. The annual Woodloch gathering, in fact, was timed around Maryanne’s birthday celebration, a gift from her husband, Fred. It was a celebration that drew every member of what is now three generations of Hyatts.

She had many hobbies over the years and always was active in whatever community she lived in; she was particularly proud of her time at Bridgeport Hospital as a volunteer as well as her time volunteering for Oronoque Village, the development she and Fred lived in while in CT. Maryanne was a proud member of the DAR. Her ancestor, Daniel Bray, aided Gen. George Washington’s successful Delaware crossing and attack on the Hessian Army.

She loved reading as well as puzzles and games of any kind. Playing bingo and slot machines also was a favorite pastime.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Fran Lucas; a brother, Richard T. Gray, Jr.; and a sister-in-law, Judith Hyatt.

Surviving are her loving and devoted husband, Col. Frederic David Hyatt, USA-Ret.; her children and their spouses, Cheryl and Michael Carboine, Kathy and Robert Behre, and Fred and Jen Hyatt; her grandchildren, Michael Carboine, Jr. and his wife, Reese, Kimberly Catalano and her husband, Angelo, Casey Behre, Ryan Behre, Hogan Hyatt, and Macey Hyatt; her great grandson, Andrew Carboine; a sister and brother-in-law, Mim and John McDermott; a sister-in-law, Shirley Gray; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Phillip and Joan Hyatt; several extended family members; and many dear friends around the world.

A joint life celebration service for Maryanne and her beloved husband, Fred, who died on October 21, 2022, officiated by Rev. Harry Mazujian, will take place on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Episcopal Church, corner of New York Avenue and Broad Street, Flemington, NJ 08822, under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. Everyone is requested to meet at the church beginning at 10:45 a.m. that Monday morning.

Services and Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be posted here when known.
