Nancy Mae Drinkwater Middelton, age 82 years, of Glen Gardner, NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born on February 18, 1939 at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Nelson) Drinkwater.
Raised in Whitehouse Station, NJ, Nancy graduated from the first graduating class of Hunterdon Central High School. After high school Nancy followed her mother into the nursing profession and later enlisted in the Army as a nurse. Her career included maternal and infant care, both in the Army and in private practice in Ohio.
Upon returning to her beloved Hunterdon County, Nancy worked as a private duty nurse at both the Hunterdon State School and Hagedorn Geriatric Center. Nancy was passionate about Nursing and caring for others and continued to do so until her death.
Nancy was an avid bird watcher, a hobby she had shared with her father. She could be seen wandering the farm fields of Hunterdon County with her birding glasses and walking stick. When the weather kept her out of the fields, she fed the birds and squirrels at home and enjoyed their antics until the spring came again.
In the spring, her family and friends will gather for a birding hike in her honor and all are asked to think f Nancy each time they see a pretty bird.
Nancy is survived by many friends, as she made friends wherever she went. She spent her last 18 years at Newton’s Guest Home in Lebanon Township, where she enriched the lives of the residents and staff in so many ways and who will miss her fiercely.
