Newton Nathan LeVine, age 90 years, of Holland Township, NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, February 23, 2020 at Easton Hospital, Easton, PA.
Born in Albany, NY, June 12, 1929, son of the late Jacob and Pearl Viner LeVine, he was raised in Albany and had lived in Ramsey, NJ prior to moving to Holland Township twenty years ago.
A United States Army veteran, Newton went on to do his undergraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Architecture, he would later go on to Rutgers University to complete his graduate work in Urban Planning.
After UPENN, he worked in Philadelphia and Boston on many major commercial projects, all world renowned for their innovation and design. Newton was extremely talented and always considered himself an artist first and foremost.
Always the teacher, he would go on to become an original professor at Ramapo College, where he taught graphic arts and would Chair the Department of Contemporary Arts. He also taught Architecture at Auburn College for a period of time. Newton always felt that the minds of the young students needed to be nurtured, and he worked feverishly to help them realize their limitless potential.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Cynthia More; the mother of his son, Marilyn Sussna; and his siblings, Marvin and Barbara.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of forty-seven years, Joan LeVine, with whom he joined hands in marriage on November 18, 1972 in Perth Amboy, NJ; his son, Myshkin LeVine; his step-sons, Charles N. More and Christopher More and his wife, Lisa; his grandchildren, Sarah More, Alyssa More, Charles More, and Meredith Hesdon; three great grandchildren, Henry More, Caroline More, and Chloe Cynthia Hesdon; several extended family members; and many friends and students around the world.
A celebration of Newton’s life will take place on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822. Friends are welcome to arrive beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
Graveside services will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 69 Capner Street, Flemington, NJ.
