Obituary

Patricia Ann “Patty” Wescott, age 54 years, of Lebanon Township, NJ, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.

Born in New Brunswick, NJ,March 17, 1964 to Ronald O. and Ann A. Nemeth Wescott of Edison, NJ, Patty resided in Lebanon Township for the past three years, having formerly been raised in Edison, NJ and having lived in Middlesex and Dunellen, NJ.

Patty was an Associate in the Civil Engineering division of PS & S, Warren, NJ, a job which she loved and co-workers whom she treated like family.

Strong-willed and determined, Patty put her entire self into anything she did; work, family, church, etc., all were recipients of her love and directness.

A faithful communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Bernardsville, NJ, Patty was very involved with the choir. Singing was Patty’s way of expressing her feelings out into the world. It was just another piece of her very creative personality.

Diagnosed many years ago with cancer, Patty became involved with holistic medicine and natural alternatives mainly through diet and avoiding chemicals, and was able to live eleven more healthy years than the doctors ever thought she could. She put her faith into action, and became a passionate teacher on the subject. Her determination and drive will leave an indelible mark on all those who knew her and are left to carry her legacy forward.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Margaret Nemeth and Joseph and Frederika Panek.

In addition to her parents, surviving are her son, Miles B. Raffa; a daughter, Margaret S. “Maggie” Raffa; a grandson, Nathaniel Raffa; her siblings, James, Christopher, Julie, Kathleen, and Elizabeth Wescott and Eileen Wescott-Kish and Marianne McLaughlin; her former spouse, Stephen Raffa; several nieces, nephews and extended family; and many cherished friends.

I was honored to be Patty’s voice teacher for four years. She certainly did love singing, and she always wanted to challenge herself. Looking back on it, I wish I could have done more to help Patty. However, I did what I could, and I am blessed to have known her. She was a good soul who put others before herself.

Words can not express the sadness I feel. Such a shock to the OLPH choir. Patty's beautiful soprano voice will be missed. Her and I performed together in church concerts and sang many descant parts together, helping each other through the difficult ones. Treasured memories. Heaven has gained a singing angel. Rest in Peace Patty.

Sincerest condolences to Maggie and Miles. I remember Patty fondly from our days at OLMV, the field trips, basketball games, choir and many other school and church activities. She was always smiling and a wonderful person to be around. Now she is an angel looking down from heaven and singing with the angelic choirs. She had a beautiful voice. May your memories and the love you shared sustain you.
