Peter Gary Amendolair, age 68 years, of Clinton Township, NJ, died suddenly on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born on March 20, 1952 in Somerville, NJ, Peter was raised in Manville, NJ and had resided in the Town of Clinton and Clinton Township for the past forty years.
A 1970 graduate of Manville High School, Peter would earn a BA in Finance from Rider College. He would then go on to earn two Masters Degrees from Rutgers University and Fairleigh Dickinson University, both in Business Administration.
Known as a prominent figure in the financial sector, Peter was a financial executive working at several large companies over the years. Some of his positions included serving as the Chief Investment Officer for Destra Capital, Senior Managing Director for Oppenheimer & Co., and First Vice President and Chief Investment Officer for the Managed Asset Group at Merrill Lynch. Wherever he worked, he was admired as a role model and could be counted on to always provide sage, ethical, and sound advice.
His passion for the industry led him to be a founding member of the Money Management Institute and he was honored with their ‘Pioneer of Investment Consulting Award’ in 2008.
Humble and unassuming, Peter had many hobbies, including playing golf wherever and whenever the opportunity arose. He also took great solace in fly fishing, and made many of his own flies and rods.
Philanthropy was also engrained in who Peter was as a person, and he gave back to the community in many varied ways. He was especially fond of, and involved with the Hunterdon Medical Center and their affiliates. In 2015 he was appointed to the Hunterdon Heath Services Board of Trustees. He later served as a member of the MidJersey Board of Trustees, Hunterdon Healthcare Partners, and the Hunterdon Medical Group. In addition, Peter served as the Chairman of the Finance Committee, was a member of the Executive Committee, the Compensation Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Audit Committee, as well as a member of the Real Estate, Pension and Insurance Committee. Again, his sound advice and humor were appreciated by all.
Peter’s true happiness, though, was with his family and they came before anything. This part of his story begins with a trip to the Manville Foodtown with his best friend when he was 17 years old and ready to take on the world. Upon going inside, he spotted a 16-year-old Ms. Donna Feschuk. He turned to his friend and told him that he was going to marry who ever that young lady was… luckily for Peter, Cupid’s arrow hit Donna just as hard.
They would marry on May 18, 1974 in St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Manville. Their love would produce a daughter, Jill, and a son, Brian, who knew a love from their father that was unwavering and will endure forever.
Peter and Donna made it a point to be there for their children in every way possible. Though Peter had a demanding career, he always found a way to be there for his children; attending all the baseball and football games, dance recitals, and tennis matches that Jill and Brian had over the years.
Nothing gave Peter a greater sense of satisfaction than time spent with his family. Whether it be a Sunday dinner at home or a weekend up at his beloved Lake House; Peter was truly at peace when surrounded by those he loved unconditionally.
He and Donna instilled a value system based on love and respect that Jill and Brian were proud to share with the people that gave Peter a new title that he treasured dearly; Pop Pop.
A doting grandfather would be an understatement, as Peter jumped into the role with all he had. It was part of his selfless nature and his desire to always be there for his family above all else that allowed him to appreciate even more this new role, which he was destined to fulfill.
An unknown author once wrote, “A Grandpa has ears that truly listen, arms that always hold, love that’s never-ending, and a heart that’s made of gold.” Peter was that person to everyone he met; and leaves a legacy that will surely be carried by all who were fortunate to be touched by his golden heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Amendolair and Anna (Czarrunchick) Amendolair, a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Ronald Wisniewski; and by a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Patty Czarrunchick.
Surviving are his loving wife, Donna Amendolair; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Brian Ferguson; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Christie Amendolair; his cherished grandchildren, Abigail and Alexis Ferguson, Delanie Amendolair, and Grandchild Amendolair arriving in July 2020; his grand-dog, ‘Blitz’; his sister, Diane Jones; several extended family, and many, many dear friends who all miss him greatly.
