Robert Eric Moffett was born on August 11, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. At 85, he passed away at his home in Manville, NJ on October 5, 2021 knowing he was in his favorite place where he resided with his loving wife, Jen, of 16 years and their cat, Dart. He loved his home and all it represented to their love story.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 3 siblings, and 2 children: Gary Moffett of Bangor, PA in 1993 and Cheryl Davis, of Clearlake, CA in 2020.
Bob is survived by his loving and cherished family. In addition to his wife, Jennifer (neè: Williams) Moffett, are 3 daughters and their families: Pam (Tom) Meyerett of Ft. Collins, CO, Debbie Stamback of Clearlake Oaks, CA and Lisa (John) Upright of North Wales, PA. Bob’s loving family included his step-children: Donna (Dave) Detrick of Easton, PA, Linda (George) Bargiel of Bangor, PA, Lori (Terry) Hirtz of Arvada, CO, Chris (Tazkiya) Amster of Reston, VA, Owen (Anna) Amster of Bridgewater, NJ and Leslie Amster of Morristown, NJ. Bob is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, all of whom he loved dearly. Watching them grow and being with them as much as possible, whether it was attending a school event, supporting a sports activity or just sitting on his back deck visiting, was a true joy. He cherished his family and was so proud to be “Pop-pop” or “Grampy” to so many.
Bob was a retired toy salesman and owned Totally Toys retail stores back in the 80’s and 90’s. His young children never wanted for the best and latest toys.
A kid at heart, Bob loved organizing Halloween haunted houses for his children. Anywhere there was opportunity for family adventure, Bob was willing to try. He drove a camper van full of family members to the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. He played on a church softball team. He joined the family for a kayaking adventure on Merrill Creek, and rode the Swan Boats on a trip to Boston.
He loved doing home repairs, mowing his lawn, and helping to maintain a small vegetable garden in the summers. Bob stayed active, running with Jen in several local 5K races, and he climbed Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire, for the second time, at age 70. He joined family to celebrate the Eagles’ Super Bowl win at the parade in Philadelphia. He loved showing people around New York City, making numerous trips to Broadway and other show venues. From 2004 – 2019 he sang with the Barnstormers Male Choral Group. They traveled the east coast entertaining audiences with beautiful music that Bob was always proud to invite friends and family to hear.
Later in life, he loved reading a good book, enjoying videos of comedian Jim Gaffigan, and watching his favorite Philadelphia teams, the Eagles and Phillies. He was proud of his still being able to walk “the 2-mile loop” in his home town.
All who knew him will always remember him for his easy going ways, his love of jokes, and his ability to make everyone laugh and smile. If he knew a good joke, he would share it – even if he already told it to you many other times. He just wanted everyone around him to be happy; he provided nothing but love and support to his entire family. Everyone was blessed by his fun and charming personality.
Lastly, a personal journal entry from his granddaughter, shared with Jen and approved to be shared.
“Whether you called him Bob, Poppop, Dad, Grandpa or your Husband, he was still ,The Man,The Myth,The Legend. He will always be that!
I mean he was, full of love and happiness, who left behind so so many amazing memories and who will always be known as a legend because of how awesome he was. It was so nice to see you one last time in person, even though you were not completely there you made it clear you could hear us. You smiled when we said we love you, and smirked when something funny was mentioned. The amount of memories I have with you is so unbelievable, I am so lucky to have had you for 16 years of my life. I will always cherish those memories. Whether it was carving pumpkins, watching movies, driving to Walmart, or just hanging around talking, those memories will forever be in my heart. And will never fail to bring me comfort and joy in a sad situation. I’m so incredibly grateful to have had you as my grandfather. And wish you the best wherever you are now. I’m sure your probably with Gary or haunting the Eagles trying to get them to win more games. Love you Pop pop, always have, always will. Rest in peace, you’ll forever be missed.”
In Bob style, he did not want a funeral but always loved a gathering of family and friends. In August, 2022 there will be an amazing Celebration of his Life for all who knew and loved him. Details at a later date.
Cremation at the Chapel of Ewing Crematory was private under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
