Stephen A. Mauro, age 58 years, of Flemington Borough, NJ, returned to the arms of his Lord on Monday, February 14, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born on May 10, 1963 in the Bronx, NY, son of the late Eugene John and Kathleen Ann McCartney Mauro, Stephen grew up in Somerset, NJ and then moved to Oregon for twenty-five years before moving to Flemington ten years ago.
Selfless, loving, compassionate, creative, and kind are just a few words that describe this man who loved flying a kite (when the wind would cooperate), or gazing up at the starry night on those beautiful clear east and west coast evenings.
A true dreamer, Stephen was the type of person who would lend a helping hand before needing to be asked. Simply put, he was a gentle soul who cared for everyone.
Stephen will also be remembered for supporting the New Jersey and Pennsylvania casinos with his “donations”. Though he sometimes “donated” more than he should have, a good time was always had by all in attendance. He also was an active social member of the Flemington VFW Post #7856 and enjoyed spending time there with his friends.
Surviving are his wife, Laura; two stepsons, Walter J. Zacek, Jr. and Matthew Zacek; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Kelly Mauro, David Mauro and Margaret Beckett, and Robert and Bernadette Mauro; a brother-in-law, Joseph Sanfedele; a sister-in-law, Lisa Sanfedele; a niece, Angela Sanfedele; his four legged friends, dogs, Bella and Pixie, and cat, Dusty; many nieces and nephews; several close family members; and many dear friends.
Cremation was private under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
Life Celebration Services will be announced at a later date due to the current pandemic. Kindly check back on this page for further information.
