Thomas Francis Tosco, age 64 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at St. Claire’s Hospital, Dover, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Somerville, NJ on May 15, 1957, he was the son of the late John Charles Tosco, Sr. and Jane Scannicchio Tosco.
Graduating Immaculata High School, Somerville, NJ Tom went on to earn his BA from Montclair State University in 1979 with a degree in Public/Business Administration and Political Science. He also later pursed an MBA in finance at Farleigh Dickinson University.
His early career began in accounting at RCA until moving into the sales department there. The company at that time in the early 1980’s took the name RCA GE Harris Semiconductor; it later became Intersil. Tom worked at Intersil for the next 19 years in several different District/Regional Distribution Sales Manager positions. He later worked at Avnet as an Area Account Manager for over 9 years, then Future Electronics as a General Manager for over three years, and became an Independent Consultant to the Electronics Distribution industry before concluding his 40+ year career in sales, starting a new chapter with his own sporting goods store.
His sporting world experience came during his time in sales, when he worked part-time at Efingers in Bound Brook for 15 years up until they went out of business in 2016. After the shop went out of business, he decided to pursue a new chapter in his life and in 2017 he opened up his own sporting goods shop, The Sporting Life, in Whitehouse, NJ.
The shop wasn’t just where you could go to purchase all your sporting good needs, but rather it was a place but also where you could go to hang with the boys. Tom was one who made so many great friends and forged lasting relationships since grade school, college, his corporate life, and Efingers, and his shop was no different.
Generous, thoughtful, kind, and selfless, Tom always put everyone else first before himself. He would not ask for anything in return,; if you asked him for a favor he would do his best to follow through, always with a smile.
A champion of equality and justice, Tom made everybody feel like a somebody. He spoke so highly of the accomplishments & achievements of others, even if he only met them briefly. Truly the mark of a grounded person, secure in his spirit.
Having many hobbies and outlets, some of Tom’s favorites were enjoying old western & Italian movies, dessert & pastries from the Italian bakeries, a great Italian restaurant, spending time at the jersey shore, especially on LBI where he spent the summers with his family, day trips to Belmar, salt water fishing, hunting and the shared camaraderie from his buddies who held the same passion for the outdoors, going to NYC during the holiday season, travel to Atlantic City and Las Vegas, and most importantly the deep love he had for his family and friends.
With his charitable heart, Tom was involved in many organizations and charities through the years, each who benefited from his thoughtful and humble leadership and caring ways. These included the Flemington Elks Lodge and the various charities they supported, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and most recently The NJ Sharing Network, who helped Tom ensure that his daughter Jessica, who passed suddenly in 2016, was able to share her gifts with so many.
In addition to his parents and his beloved Jessica, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, John Charles Tosco, Jr. in 2019.
Surviving are his cherished daughter, Rebecca Tosco; his former wife and dear friend, Karen Tosco; his sister-in-law, Barbara Tosco; his nephew and his wife, Johnny and Brittney Tosco; his nephew, Stephen Tosco; his great niece, Syrena Tosco; his large extended family; and his many special and dear friends.
