Veronica “Bonnie” DeCarolis, age 71 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2019 at home, with her loving husband, Richard and her faithful companion, “Buddy,” by her side.
Born in Germantown, PA, March 20, 1948, daughter of the late William and Ruth Morris Milus, she was raised outside of Philadelphia and in Bucks County, PA. She had lived in Royersford, PA prior to moving to Raritan Township thirty years ago.
Graduating from West Chester University with a degree in Education, Bonnie worked for many years in customer relations for AMP (now TYCO). She was their first female sales engineer on the East Coast and was well respected by her colleagues as a person who could get things done, and get them done correctly.
After retirement, she went on to become a substitute teacher in the Flemington-Raritan School District, teaching from kindergarten all the way through eighth grade. She also was a well known real-estate agent for Sebastian, GMAC Real Estate, Flemington, NJ, where she assisted many with both the purchase and sale of their homes in the area.
Bonnie was a devoted and longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Flemington, NJ. She was involved in all areas of Church life; from bible study, to teaching Sunday School, to assisting with the church finances, Bonnie never missed a Sunday at St. Paul’s. It truly was a second home to her and enabled her to nurture her faith in a loving and caring God.
Bonnie was very civic-minded and energetic, which is to say she never sat still! A published author, she loved to read and write about all subjects. She had many interests ranging from enjoying the opera, king, painting (both charcoals and oils), and watching the night sky and its wonder from the observatory.
Simply put, she loved life and the people in it. She was devoted to her husband of forty years, Richard, who easily recalled that it was Bonnie who made him smile each and every day. “She loved me,” he says, “…will all she had. She is and always will be the best.”
As Bonnie so loved the stars and the peaceful feeling of wonder and hope they instilled in her, these words from famous French author Antoine de Saint-Exupéry ring true: “You – you alone will have the stars as no one else has them…In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night…You – only you – will have stars that can laugh.” Bonnie, thank you for always being the shining star in all of our lives and thank you for continuing to guide us with your light.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Esther DeCarolis in 2016.
Surviving are her husband, Richard William DeCarolis; her cherished daughter, Natalie DeCarolis; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Thomas Bigger; two brothers and a sister-in-law, William and Christine Milus, and Eric Milus; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Hendrick and Donna DeCarolis; her faithful four-pawed friend, “Buddy”; several nieces, nephews, and extended family; her St. Paul family; and many dear friends.
