Walter Rzeszutek, age 87 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2019, in the inpatient hospice unit at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sokolow, Poland, March 12, 1932, Walter had lived in Raritan Township for over fifty-two years. Growing up in Poland, he emigrated with his family to the United States in 1964, first to Garfield, NJ, then to Wallington, NJ, before settling in Raritan Township.
He was employed for many years by the Johns Manville Corporation where he put in long hours and worked very hard to support his family. After his retirement, Walter, who always enjoyed working, joined the maintenance department at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, where he then worked for many more years before finally retiring a second time.
Strong-willed and hard working are just two descriptors of this man who just wanted to do all he could for his family, especially his children. In addition to his ability to fix almost anything mechanical, Walter was also a master woodworker. Many in his family are recipients of fine hand-made pieces of furniture and most of his children’s homes were built by his hands. A true legacy of action.
An avid small and big game hunter, he loved to spend time in his tree stand enjoying all the beauty of God’s creation. Raised Catholic, Walter had a strong spiritual side and was a longtime member of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, and also attended church over the years with his children at Our Lady of Victories Parish, Baptistown, NJ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Eric Shea Van Scoten and Kristen Rzeszutek; and a daughter-in-law, Josephine Rzeszutek.
Surviving are his caring wife of sixty-nine years, Stella Kolodzey Rzeszutek; his children, Angela Merklinger and her husband, Stefan, Mary Adamczewski and her husband, Stanley, Terry Van Scoten, and William Rzeszutek; his grandchildren who lovingly called him Dzadziu”, Henry, Thomas, Jennifer, James, Ashley, Shawn, Daniel, Jason and Tracy; twenty great grandchildren; his siblings, Gene, Hanka and Rusga; several extended family members; and may dear friends.
Walter will lie in repose on Friday, November 1, 2019 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victories Church, 1005 County Road 519, Frenchtown, NJ 08825 (Baptistown), under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Kris Kaczynski will take place immediately following the visitation on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the church.
Everyone is then invited to join in procession with the family for committal prayers at St. Magdalen Mausoleum, 99 North Main Street, Flemington, NJ, where Walter will be entombed.
