William “Bill” Pieranunzi, Jr., age 89 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, went home to the Lord peacefully on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown, NJ.
Born and raised in Providence, RI, son of the late William and Ruth Pieranunzi, Bill lived most of his life in Rhode Island, moving to New Hope, PA in 2003 and then settling to Flemington, NJ in 2014.
Loving, caring, genuine, and kind, William will be best remembered as an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, and friend who taught by example. Grounded in his Catholic faith, he lived by the motto of, ‘do unto others as you would have them do unto you.’
A United States Army veteran, Bill was stationed in Austria and Germany in the 1950’s and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal. He would later attend Providence College, earning a BA in Education. He would go on to teach Social Studies at Ponaganset Middle School in Rhode Island, where he was admired not only for making class fun for his students, but more importantly for imparting a sense of “you can do anything you set your mind to” in their hearts.
He enjoyed the outdoors, particularly playing golf and tennis as well as boating, “storytelling” around a fire pit or living room, road trips to anywhere, and being with his grandchildren and family. Simply put, Bill touched the hearts of everyone he came in contact with.
A communicant of St. Magdalen Church, Flemington, NJ, he attended daily mass faithfully and enjoyed seeing his many friends, who became his family, each morning. Though his passing was sudden, the world is better for Bill having passed through it, and for the legacy of hope he leaves in the hearts of so many. No doubt when he closed his eyes on Earth, they surely opened in that placed promised to all, and heard the words from Matthew 25:23: His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pasqualina Vacca Pieranunzi in 2014.
Surviving are his children, William and Peggy Pieranunzi, Patricia Pieranunzi, and Kirk and Dawn Fields; five grandchildren, Nathaniel, Austin, Christopher, Caroline, and William IV; several extended family; and many dear friends.
