On May 15, 2022, William Svenningsen, our devoted, caring, gregarious, ‘it’s five o’clock somewhere’, country music loving dad and “Papa”, was welcomed home by our Heavenly Father.
As all who knew him, he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Always caring and generous of his time and talents which are too numerous to count. His love for working on cars (1950-60 models were his favorites because they didn’t require a computer to fix the problem), boats, home repairs or building an addition were all things that he loved to do. Add to that his love for nature whether it was hunting in upstate New York with his friends and family or fishing locally, (didn’t matter if it was fresh water or salt water, fish or no fish), a voyage with his friends out to the ‘Canyon’, camping at State Parks in NJ or traveling cross county, numerous trips to Norway to spend time with family, he loved life and lived it to the fullest.
While he physically is no longer here, he is at peace, breathing easy and we will all cherish the time spent with him.
His parents, Thorvald and Christina Svenningsen, brother, Knut Svenningsen, and sister, Sonja Barr, all were there to welcome him as they preceded him in death.
Left to carry on his legacy of unselfish giving of time and talents are his children, Knut Svenningsen, Ingrid Svenningsen Noonan and her husband, Richard Noonan, Kirsten Svenningsen Tilton and her husband, Jay Tilton, Sonja Gundersen, and Thor Svenningsen and his wife, Rachel. His grandchildren, Bryan, Keith, Avery and Haakon will remember the fishing trips, ‘fixing’ things and his fun-loving, carefree love for life.
To celebrate his life and legacy, family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, May 26, 2022, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at the Somerville Elks Lodge, 375 Union Avenue, Bridgewater Township, NJ, 08807. Food and beverages will be served throughout the gathering times, so please come hungry!
A life celebration service will take place at 6:00 p.m. and to which all are welcome. If you are unable to attend the service but would like some words read on your behalf, please click HERE to send an email to the funeral home with your thoughts. Kindly include your contact information.
If you are unable to join the family on Thursday, please take a moment to raise your glass, and toast Bill by saying: Skål! (which is ‘cheers’ in Norwegian)
