Gregory Dean Thompson, M.D., age 60 years, of Franklin Township, Warren County, NJ, died peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ, surrounded by his loving family.
Born July 3, 1958 in Augsburg, Germany, son of Shirley Ann Allen Thompson and the late James Ashley Thompson, Greg came to the United States when he was two months old. Residing in various states, including Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, Virginia, and Illinois, he had lived in New Jersey since 2015.
A graduate of The University of Virginia at Charlottesville, Greg earned his B.S. and continued on to the Dominican Republic to complete his Medical Degree. He was a member of the International Society of Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) since 2010.
Currently, he was working as a Senior Vice President for the Allegent Group, Sterling, NJ. He had an enormous work ethic, loved his job and fellow employees who worked with him over the years. Greg will be remembered as a mentor to many of his colleagues.
When reflecting on Greg, various adjectives come to mind, the most prominent being loving. He was also kind, generous, dedicated, and always met anyone with an infectious smile. Never idle; Greg was always busy doing something thoughtful and productive.
He will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, whose generosity and kindness touched all he encountered.
Enjoying baseball and playing in high school and college, his team once went to the National Championship in Riverside, CA.
Greg was also involved with the Rodeo as a young boy, coached his sons baseball teams, and later in life would enjoy the sport of golf.
Always the athlete, running was also a passion, and while vacationing at Hawks Nest in Marathon Key, FL. Greg would run the seven-mile bridge run in the blazing heat. Fitness being a big part of his life, and often going to the gym, his sons would remember their dad hunched over on the stair master, dripping of sweat, and mouthing, “FIVE”.
The beach and traveling, especially to Jamaica, Hawaii, and cruising to Alaska, offer fond memories which will be remembered by all.
Family time was probably the most precious, and while watching movies and relaxing, he would naturally hum, which entertained and always put a smile on everyone’s face.
The calm in every storm, his pride was his family. This, along with his humor and always optimistic self, will be treasured by all who knew him.
His family will live their lives looking for joy in everyday, and knowing he will forever be in their hearts.
Surviving, in addition to his mother Shirley Thompson, are his wife, Terri Palmer Thompson; a daughter, Megan Anne Thompson and her fiancé, George Andrew Thomas; two sons, Ryan Robert and his wife, Layne McGregor Thompson, and Matthew Dean Thompson; a brother Timothy James and his wife, Michelle Renee Thompson; a sister, Stephanie Ann and her husband, Joseph Cipolloni; three nieces, one nephew and several extended family; and many dear friends.
