George Joseph Featherman, age 79 years, of Union Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died peacefully on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at home, surrounded by his loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born in Newark, NJ, November 19, 1939, son of the late Joseph and Kathleen Featherman, George was raised in Newark and had lived in Budd Lake, Fords, and Whitehouse, NJ prior to moving to Union Township sixteen years ago.
Serving in the Army National Guard and being honorably discharged in 1963, George served for many years as the private chauffeur and assistant to the President of Topper Toys, Elizabeth, NJ. He would later go on to become a crane operator for Reading Railroad in Port Reading and Elizabeth, NJ.
His favorite job though, was more than a job, as he owned and operated a farm, Mountain View Stables with his loving wife, Margaret, in Whitehouse, NJ. The couple raised pigs but will most be remembered for their Christmas Trees, which brought many smiles to the community over the years.
Margaret and George were married for fifty years and would of celebrated their fifty-first wedding anniversary on September 21. George met Marge while she was working at a car wash in Elizabeth, NJ and he brought a car in to be washed. It was love at first sight and Marge fondly recalled that George, “…was easy to love with a heart of gold!”
He was a family man, doing all he could for his wife, two sons, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As son George said, “…he was my ‘Hero'” as he was always there for them. He never met a person who did not become a friend, and his heart knew no boundaries; holiday time was especially important to George and he ensured that those less fortunate always had basic necessities and a few “special things” to help make their holidays a bit brighter.
George was a man who had many varied hobbies from boating and water skiing, to coin collecting.
Above all, anyone who knew George will remember him as a man of integrity and genuineness who will be missed, but whose legacy of love will endure.
Surviving are his devoted wife, Margaret Angelina Shannon Featherman; a son and daughter-in-law, George Featherman and Lisa Cantor; a son, Ron Featherman; his grandchildren, Nicholas and his wife, Dana Featherman, Amanda and her husband, Egido Enea, Ryan Featherman, Amber Cantor, Cheyenne Featherman, and Catoneses Featherman; his great grandchildren, Valentina, Giovanni, Carmine, Jeniva, Luke, Logan, and Lily; a sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Al Luash; a sister-in-law, Jeannie Mandel; several extended family members; and many dear friends.
