Harvey Lloyd Baron, M.D., age 83 years, of Readington Township, NJ, died peacefully at home on Thursday, August 7, 2025, under the caring watch of Compassionate Care Hospice.
Born in the Bronx, New York, on January 15, 1942, Harvey spent his formative years in Rahway and later Carteret, NJ, graduating from Carteret High School in 1960. He earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Newark College of Engineering (now NJIT) and worked as an engineer before pursuing his dream of becoming a physician. He put himself through medical school at Albany Medical College, and completed his residency there in Orthopedic Surgery. He did his fellowship at the AI Dupont Institute in Wilmington, Delaware, in Pediatric Orthopedics.
Harvey also served as a Major in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. It was while stationed in Little Rock, Arkansas, that he met fellow officer First Lieutenant Kathy Moore- the woman who would become his wife and lifelong partner. Together, they lived in Albany, NY , before settling in Readington, New Jersey, where they raised their family.
Dr. Baron maintained a private practice in Hillsborough, NJ, for forty years. He was a man of quiet strength and sharp intellect – the kind of strength that built not only a successful life, but a deeply meaningful one. Harvey approached everything with care and intention, working hard, not for recognition, but to create a life full of warmth, generosity, and his “world famous” barbeque. His wife, Kathy, was his constant – his partner in every way. He was a fierce family man, supportive of his wife, daughters, and siblings, devoted to his three grandchildren, and a steady, loyal presence for his many friends.
Beyond his profession, Dr. Baron had a remarkable range of interests and skills: he was a licensed pilot and longtime member of the Blue Sky Club at Solberg Airport, an avid fly fisherman and hunter, woodworker, and gardener. His grandchildren especially loved whipping up chaos and culinary delights with him – a joy he shared equally with his wife. Harvey accomplished so much in one lifetime that those who knew him often questioned their own life choices. But Harvey never measured worth that way. He simply lived life fully, constantly surrounded by family and love.
Harvey is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy; his daughters, Elizabeth Baron and her husband, Michael DiCenso, Lauren Baron, and Ashley Peterson and her children, Harper, Levi, and Ivy. He is also survived by his sister, Roberta Baron.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Kate and Irving Baron, as well as his brother, Charles Baron.
Memorial Services will take place on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Temple Sholom, 594 North Bridge Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807. Everyone is kindly asked to arrive at the temple beginning at 10:45 a.m.
