Katherine Steinbinder Napholz died Saturday, March 3, 2012 in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. Katherine was born and raised in the German town of Schandra, Romania. She married Martin Napholz in 1939, and they settled in the neighboring town of Sagas where two sons, Adolf and Martin where born. At the insistence of Katherine s father, Johann, and as World War II was coming to an end, the extended family left their home and headed west in advance of the invading Communist Russian army. The family settled first in Austria where their son Joseph was born, and then moved on to Germany where their daughter Anneliese was born. In 1952 the family emigrated to the US, living for their first year in Somerville, New Jersey, and then moving to the Bronx, New York. In 1963, Katherine & Martin returned to their farming roots and moved to a farm in Barbertown, Hunterdon County NJ. They lived there for 40 years, next door to Katherine s sister and brother-in-law, Rosa and John Geng. Katherine and Martin hosted many holiday and family celebrations at their farm. She was an avid gardener, well known for her beautiful flower beds and vegetable garden, and for her excellent home cooking. Katherine also worked as a seamstress at Flemington Furs until her retirement. Her youngest son Joseph passed away in 1999 and after her husband of 64 years, Martin, passed away, she moved to the Meadowood Retirement Community in Lansdale Pennsylvania to be closer to her daughter. Katherine is survived by a brother Kaspar Steinbinder (Alma) of Mindelheim Germany; a son Adolf (Rita) of Blairstown NJ; a son Martin (Andrea) of Tom s River NJ; a, daughter Anneliese Gimpel (James) of Collegeville PA; and a niece Anna Marie Geng Burk (Johst) of Mohegan Lakes NY; She was the proud grandmother of seven, Robert Napholz (Ann) of Riverdale NJ , Michael Napholz (Patty) of Andover NJ and Edward Napholz (Donna) of Fairfield NJ; Laura Gimpel of New York City, Scott Gimpel (Julia) of Conshohocken PA, Kevin Gimpel of Pittsburgh, Thomas Napholz (Meegan) of Bayville NJ and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will begin on Saturday March 10 2012 at 9:00 AM in the Robert L. Ford Funeral Home, #38 Highway 31, Flemington, NJ followed by a Funeral Liturgy at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Victories Church, Baptistown, NJ.
