Luisa Renda age 42, of Ringoes NJ, died December 18, 2007, at home after a lengthy struggle with gastric cancer. She was born July 3, 1965 in Sao Mamede, Portugal, the daughter of Francelina Silva and the late Antonio Silva. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 10 and lived in Hunterdon County the remainder of her life. Luisa was a proud mother and was enthusiastic about her service to the community and her church, St Magdalen de Pazzi s in Flemington NJ. She is a graduate of Hunterdon Central High School and was enrolled in the nursing program at Raritan Valley College until her illness. She served as a Girl Scout Leader in Ringoes for 12 Years. Her commitment to her faith included serving as a CCD teacher, extraordinary minister of the Eucharist, Homebound Ministry, The Lord s Supper Committee and was an officer of the Rosary Altar Society. She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Alfred Renda, Her children, Nicholas, Amanda, Freddy and Celina, all at home; Her mother Francelina Silva of Three Bridges; Her sisters Helena Coelhos, Augusta Santos, Isabel Silva, Paula LaFerla, Fatima Birardi, Maria Gracia Silva and Cecilia Weber; her brother Antonio Silva and 28 nieces and nephews. A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 10:30 AM in St. Magdalen s Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery under the direction of the Robert L. Ford Funeral Home, 38 Highway 31, Flemington. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Carmelite Monastery, 26 Harmony School Road, Flemington, New Jersey 08822. Luisa was a very special person. We met her through her volunteer work at St. Magdalenes church, where she helped bring us closer to God. We will always treasure her memory in our hearts. Luisa and her family are in our prayers.

Dear Family of Luisa! My prayers are with you and all of Luisa's loved ones. May you all be touched by the Love of God's comfort and care. Luisa is a very special friend of mine. I met her at the Hunterdon Regional Center. When we first met during our chemotherapy she was going very strongly, full of faith, love and hope which she was always giving out to everyone around her. She brought in prayers, handed out pictures and information about everybody's saint. Mine of course is Saint Francis, whose picture she gave me on the medallion of a necklace. Her friendly Sisters knitted a prayer blanket for me. I got to meet some of her wonderful family. Everyone around her was always covered in a blanket of prayer. We kept on praying for each other and she called me her chemo angel. And she was my chemo angel! I will miss her dearly! A sweet part of my life is gone. She suffered terribly and undeservedly as all suffering of this kind is. Luisa was one of my soul mates and teachers - she taught me that God's ways are not always our ways and that prayers are not always answered according to our wishes, but in God's all knowing and wise ways. I am so sorry to read of the loss of weezie as we called her in cosmetology class back in 83 and 84. She was a fabulous person and I was shocked to have learned that God took her to his loving arms.
