Adele Florence Nemes, age 94 years, of Alexandria Township, NJ, died on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at home with her devoted husband of almost sixty years, Andrew, by her side.
Born in Irvington, NJ, January 1, 1922, daughter of the late John and Sophia Roman Pierz, she had been a resident of Alexandria Township since 1970.
When Adele was six years old, her father bought a one-hundred acre farm in Clinton, NJ and she became a true, ‘farm girl.’ Some of her fondest stories were recalled from growing up on that farm where Adele did everything from milking the cows to feeding the chickens. No task was too large or small, and she did it all with the smile and temperament that would follow her throughout life.
In 1953, while attending a dance at the “Falcons Camp” in Somerville, NJ, Adele met a young man named Andrew Nemes. Andy recalls there being just a ‘magnetism’ between the two and they dated for several years before marrying in the old Sacred Heart Church in Manville, NJ on October 13, 1957.
Adele and Andy continued to build their life together on a foundation of love and faith. They greatly enjoyed dancing all over Pennsylvania and New Jersey. From a polka to a waltz, the two were always on the go. They also were the informal parents of many in their Alexandria Township and greater Hunterdon County neighborhood and you never left Adele’s home on an empty stomach, as she was a tremendous cook and always was very giving to all those she encountered.
For many years Adele was the head bank teller for Fidelity Bank in Newark, NJ and greatly enjoyed traveling on the bus to and from work where she made many friends. She also worked at several local banks in and around Hunterdon and Somerset counties.
Adele loved the outdoors, bird watching and growing flowers, especially Zinnia’s, which Andy planted for her each year so she could see them off of their porch.
An avid New York Mets fan, Adele will be remembered by most as a true family orientated person who was clever and witty and never had a bad word to say about anyone; anyone.
In addition to her parents whom she tended loving care until their deaths, she was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Theodore and Patricia Pierz and a nephew, Jeffrey Pierz. Additionally, her ‘fur-children,’ two springer spaniels, Kip and Snaps, died earlier.
Surviving are her husband, Andrew Anthony Nemes; as well as many close friends in the community whom she considered as family.
Funeral services officiated by Rev. Krysztof Kaczynski will take place on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. in Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
Interment in Washington Crossing National Cemetery will be private at a later date.
