Alexea Grace Karpinski, age 17 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died suddenly on Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born on October 7, 2003 at Hunterdon Medical Center, daughter of Michael F. and Danielle M. Crisonino Karpinski, Alexea was a lifelong area resident and was currently a Junior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School, Flemington, NJ.
A standout scholar and athlete, Alexea was shy and reserved when she was younger, but as she grew, with the love and support of family, friends, teachers, and coaches, she soon realized that anyone could do anything they wished or aspired to, as long as they believed in themselves and put in the hard work necessary for the task.
Playing multiple sports her entire life, it was in fourth grade when she was asked to play goalie for her lacrosse team where something in her heart told her that this was a passion she should invest in. Taking private lessons and any and all extra practices available, Alexea honed her skills and was currently wearing #22 for the Hunterdon Central Red Devils where she served as goalie. She also proudly played for the Triple Threat (formerly T3) Elite Club Team wearing jersey #07.
Off the field she was constantly working on her stick skills, engaging in situational play, and continually doing strength and conditioning training. She firmly believed that finding weaknesses in her game allowed her to turn them into strengths. It was her goal to play D1 lacrosse in college while studying exercise science and eventually becoming a professional athletic trainer.
Her lacrosse passions and skills allowed her to play in the National Lacrosse Classic and the NLC All Star Game. She was named to the T3 All Star Team, selected to Nation United and WPLL Futures just to name a few of the many opportunities she earned playing her heart out for the sport she loved. In 2019, she was selected to play with the Legacy Global Sports USA team and got to travel and play in both the Czech Republic and Germany where she made many new friends and grew tremendously as a person.
A Hunterdon Central Varsity Field Hockey player as well, Alexea was a true leader both on and off the field. She was constantly inspiring other players and students to realize that no dream was out of reach and that they should always work hard and follow their heart to achieve their passions.
Leading by example, she was also extremely gifted in the classroom, maintaining a 3.96 GPA with the majority of her classes being honors and AP.
Additionally, off the field she was involved in many different activities, all with the same themes of giving back to the community and helping others: she was a member of the HCRHS Connect Club as a Connect Club Buddy and member of Operation Smile who assisted students with disabilities; she was a Girl Scout (currently working on her Gold Award); and was a volunteer lacrosse coach for her former rec team where she coached grades 2-8 to grow their skills and find their love of the game.
Alexea’s family was of primary importance to her and anyone who knew her knew that her Dad, Mike, was her biggest cheerleader and best friend. The two shared a love of sports, and Mike and Alexea traveled all over the country where he encouraged his daughter to be all that she could be and to always stay grounded.
Her mom, Danielle, and brother, Brayden, also supported her in all her endeavors and she in turn supported them at every turn. Some of the best family times were making s’mores around a fire pit, laughing, telling jokes, and cherishing the truly important parts of life: simply being together.
Friends and extended family also held a special place in Alexea’s heart, and she always made sure that they knew how special and important they were.
She loved being with people, playing sports, wakeboarding, relaxing at the beach, and driving around in her “red jeep” with her baby, her boxer mix “Baxter”, right by her side.
Though her story had many more chapters to be written, this kind, intelligent, humble, compassionate, driven, and genuine woman made an imprint on this world that will never, ever fade. Living by the mantra Walt Disney put forth, “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them”, to honor Alexea is to keep her alive in both your words and in your actions as you pursue your dreams, with kindness being at the core of those dreams.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Dante Crisonino.
Surviving, in addition to her parents and brother, are her maternal grandmother, Mary Crisonino; her paternal grandparents, Dolly and Frank Karpinski; her aunt, Melissa Karpinski; her aunt and uncle, who also served as her Godparents, Michelle and Allen Nikles; her beloved dog baby, Baxter; several extended family members; and many friends made around the world who will never forget Alexea’s smile and warm spirit.
An immediate family viewing in the Chapel of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Michael Tabernero at Immaculate Conception Church, Annandale, NJ, took place privately under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ 08822.

I am at a loss of words thinking about the loss of such an amazing person. Lex was the most genuine girl I’ve ever met. She was an amazing friend and teammate with such an incredible work ethic and passion for the sports that she played. She inspired me everyday to push myself and be greater. Lex and I built such a strong friendship that I will be able to cherish for the rest of my life. When I think about all the memories we were able to make together the ones that stick out are spending countless hours playing in games, tournaments, and practices together. Our hearts are broken at Jersey Mike's. Lex was an amazing addition to our team. She was our first courageous high school student to seek a job during COVID-19, and forged the way for so many others in a very tough time. Lex immediately became a leader and shared her wry smile and compassion with every team member. When Lex walked in the door, a calm confidence came in with her. I had no clue just how accomplished she was in Lacrosse until Drew shared that with me. I joked with her and made everyone give her a standing ovation.
She had a way to make her peers feel confident and comfortable with themselves. She would laugh when she saw an online order come in with her mom's name on it and say, don't make that yet, you know I'm taking that home with me, and I'm making what I want for me:). I would listen in when they were bopping lettuce or slicing onions together. It's the normal work chatter that creates bonds and memories all at once, and that happened quickly between Lex and her peers.
We struggled to comprehend loosing Lex and honestly, struggle with just continuing on making subs without Lex. We know her family and friends are experiencing the most devastating loss imaginable. We decided we would open on Sunday to finish out our Feed American campaign and honor Lex's spirt of giving; doing the best job we knew how to do; go all-in to support our Feed America campaign to raise funds for those in need.
Our hearts will always be proud that Lex added us to her team profile and gave us all the gift of her presence, spirt, and time. She touched all our lives, and we are better in our souls because she is part of us. With love and sadness, Jill and the entire team at Jersey Mike's in Flemington.

I am at a loss of words thinking about the loss of such an amazing person. Lex was the most genuine girl I’ve ever met. She was an amazing friend and teammate with such an incredible work ethic and passion for the sports that she played. She inspired me everyday to push myself and be greater. Lex and I built such a strong friendship that I will be able to cherish for the rest of my life. When I think about all the memories we were able to make together the ones that stick out are spending countless hours playing in games, tournaments, and practices together. Lex rocked the goal in the first half of most of our games which allowed me to spend time on the sidelines with her during the second half. She would make me laugh, hype me up, and all around be such an amazing teammate whenever I was with her. Losing Lex is like losing a sister and I am saddened at the fact that I will not see her be a beast in goal everyday. However, I know that she is looking down on all of us with her bright smile, cracking jokes, and helping critique our play. Lex will forever have a special place in my heart and I will miss her deeply. I will forever play in remembrance of Lex and continue to carry on the legacy that she started! Our hearts are broken at Jersey Mike's. Lex was an amazing addition to our team. She was our first courageous high school student to seek a job during COVID-19, and forged the way for so many others in a very tough time. Lex immediately became a leader and shared her wry smile and compassion with every team member. When Lex walked in the door, a calm confidence came in with her. I had no clue just how accomplished she was in Lacrosse until Drew shared that with me. I joked with her and made everyone give her a standing ovation.
She had a way to make her peers feel confident and comfortable with themselves. She would laugh when she saw an online order come in with her mom's name on it and say, don't make that yet, you know I'm taking that home with me, and I'm making what I want for me:). I would listen in when they were bopping lettuce or slicing onions together. It's the normal work chatter that creates bonds and memories all at once, and that happened quickly between Lex and her peers.
We struggled to comprehend loosing Lex and honestly, struggle with just continuing on making subs without Lex. We know her family and friends are experiencing the most devastating loss imaginable. We decided we would open on Sunday to finish out our Feed American campaign and honor Lex's spirt of giving; doing the best job we knew how to do; go all-in to support our Feed America campaign to raise funds for those in need.
Our hearts will always be proud that Lex added us to her team profile and gave us all the gift of her presence, spirt, and time. She touched all our lives, and we are better in our souls because she is part of us. With love and sadness, Jill and the entire team at Jersey Mike's in Flemington.

We are heartbroken. There are no words. From years ago on the Flemington Glames softball team to now on the HC FH team, Lex has been a constant shining star. As the back of the FH warm up shirts said this year, “In Pursuit of Excellence”, that sums up Lex. She was always reaching to be the very best she could be both on and off the field. But as for her beauty, it was truly the love and loyalty she had for all. Lex touched our girls, Sarah and Becca, in a way that will last forever.
